Breaking the Bias: Give Tier 3 College Graduates a Chance! Graduates from tier 3 colleges are often unfairly overlooked. Companies should look beyond college names and assess individual potential. Colleges must prioritize training students with market-relevant skills, moving beyond publicity-focused approaches. This benefits future batches in campus drives and enables students to balance their academic journey with essential skill development. Let's break the bias and give everyone a fair chance! Share your thoughts and experiences. #BreakTheBias #Tier3Colleges #SkillDevelopment #FairChance

Making these programs MORE accessible to businesses is the key to expansion. Registered apprenticeship is a win for employers and apprentices. Let’s not hinder them by going backwards.

https://lnkd.in/eUknpkez This speaks to what really happens with the on-the-job, mentor/mentee relationship of Registered Apprenticeship. It's organic, innovative, rewarding. The mentee frequently teaches the teacher. Hopefully, the USDOL will receive public comments on their new regulations to support LESS, not MORE oversight of RA. The Employer knows best.....at least the successful ones. Switch to the mantra of Invite, Include, Innovate, and Imagine and get out of the way. 📚 As a strong advocate for supporting the non-linear path between education and the workforce, I value how Anderson and Nieves offer a thought-provoking insight into this dynamic intersection. Five takeaways: 🧒 As education and workforce policies are being developed and considered, the voice of the young person is critical to making them meaningful. 🏫 There is an imperative to foster collaboration across sectors to bridge the gap between educational institutions and the demands of industry – especially as it relates to apprenticeships. 👩🏭 More must be done to provide young people with opportunities to engage in industry, but importantly find value in the experiences that are made available to them. 👩🎓 Though alternatives to college degrees are on the rise, college graduation is still critical – how do we support student success while preparing them for the global economy? 🌐 Consider the broader societal impact of what you do - and align your work with your passions and values. Incredibly, much has evolved in the years since this book was published 🤖 , but it’s first principles persist, specifically as the authors note, “we must understand that young people are behind the numbers, behind the variables in our research reports and evaluations of programs”. 🙌 If you’re in the education industry and haven’t read it yet – I’d suggest picking up Working to Learn. Thanks for the insightful work Anderson and Nieves! 🙏 #LearnerCentered #WorkingtoLearn #BookRecommendations

Higher Education leader focused on global education, learning and development, advising, admissions, and student engagement
For my colleagues in #EducationAbroad #StudyAbroad, the message that Brandon Busteed shares about the justification of higher education sheds important light on a few key factors we must also consider in our practice... First - it is a fact that #highereducation costs have skyrocketed, and the logic of including a global education experience can be tough to swallow for many families who struggle simply to pay the tuition bill each term. Next - I'd argue that we can and must do better in ensuring that we get back to basics in our practice - always keeping in mind that many students in higher education institutions would inevitably choose getting practical experience over studying abroad any day - no point in denying this reality. So - what can we do to ensure that students will increasingly see the value of having a global experience as part of their education? How can we manage the perception that higher education already has too many "bells and whistles" that cost too much to justify? Where does that leave global education experiences, which nearly always carry additional expense? I challenge us to develop more creative solutions in our practice to align global experiences with real-world challenges, that allow students to engage themselves as problem-solvers in our complex world. This can inspire them to view "study abroad" as much more than just spending time in a different country, taking the same types of courses they could do at home. Let's ensure they see proof that the experience is fundamental to both their personal and career development, allowing them to experiment with understanding global issues in a real-world context. Looking forward to collaborating with many talented colleagues in the field on finding creative and contemporary solutions to ensuring that more students will engage in global experience as part of their degree programs. It truly is up to us to make sure global education evolves into a more core and relevant component of higher education. https://lnkd.in/e6hvwAVe
The reasons behind declining confidence in U.S. higher education are myriad. At the very top of this list are political polarization and concerns about the relevance of what is taught and the work-readiness of graduates. The first has less obvious or immediate solutions. But on relevance and work-readiness there are crystal clear - and nearly instant - solutions. These are 7 steps colleges can take to restore confidence in higher ed. And on these, there is widespread support. #highered #highereducation #highereducationleadership

Here’s a great list of skills to acquire at university. I’d add two more: How to remain focused on your end goal (remember why you’re there) and How to manage your time effectively (juggling study, work, self-care and social interactions).

Back to school. Back to reality.📚 I bid farewell to my daughter this week as she heads back to uni following a well-deserved spring break. Couldn’t help but think, studying at university is a rite of passage for many, but what do we actually gain from higher education? If I were to start uni today, I would pursue these top 20 skillsets to help me get ahead: >How to learn >How to say NO >How to use time >How to destress >How to be decent >How to manage up >How to ask for help >How to be a kind host >How to be a fine guest >How to lose with grace >How to win with humility >How to gain/retain credit >How to make wise decisions >How to spend money optimally >How to filter real and fake news >How to party/network with purpose >How to win friends and influence others >How to be equally comfortable with a room of 50 and a room of 1 >How to embrace diversity, safeguard inclusion and implement equity >How to figure out ‘it’s not what you study or what grades you get that defines you” What skill sets would you have hoped to attain while at university? #InternationalEducation #HigherEducation #RiteOfPassage
