The Brewers of Europe are #ProudToBeClear and believe in empowering people with information to make informed decisions. Thanks to the voluntary initiatives the European #brewers have undertaken, the latest figures report that 95% of beer sold in cans and bottles is labelling ingredients, while 88% of those containers are labelling energy values in the same manner that other foods and non-alcoholic drinks do. Although we remain committed to empowering consumers to make informed consumption choices, our efforts need to be adequately paired with proportionate, well-targeted and effective alcohol labelling legislation. That is why, when developing labelling rules, we call on policymakers to prioritise essential, objective, comparable facts while embracing the digital transition. Struggling to sponsor indoor events, we faced a challenge: concessionaires considered our NA beer equivalent to alcohol, ignoring that it contains less alcohol than juices, pretzel bread, kombucha, and many other everyday foods. This issue was compounded by outdated laws not keeping pace with the NA beverage movement. Although we aim to tackle these outdated regulations in time, an immediate solution was necessary. So, we embraced this challenge, created zero-alcohol hop water, and can now gain entry into the same events without any issues. While hop water won’t be our flagship product, we made it unmistakably clear that it contains no alcohol at all ⤵️ And you know what? It's pretty damn addicting with zero cals, zero carbs, zero gluten, and, of course, zero alcohol. This journey is another self-reminder that innovation often comes from the need to overcome obstacles, turning potential setbacks into new paths forward.

Over the past six months, Total Wine & More has been rolling out hemp-derived THC-infused beverages at its stores in Minnesota, Connecticut, and now California. Because their extracts are derived from federally legal hemp vs. cannabis, these drinks can be sold as an alternative to alcohol alongside beer, wine, and spirits without any special license. This week, I profiled PAMOS BEVERAGE CO., a non-alcoholic, THC-infused cocktail startup that is rolling out at restaurants, bars, and retail shelves across the country. Over the past six years, such beverages failed to take off because of their limited distribution via marijuana dispensaries but now they are being carried by alcohol distributors. I also covered one of the first hard Tepache beverages, Crooked Owl, which is using its classification as a beer to gain wider distribution into foodservice and retail. Despite this technicality, it is a lower-ABV cocktail alternative as well. Demand for 0.0% alternatives has surged post-pandemic, with non-alcoholic beer sales up by 18% in 2023 and continuing to climb. This shift reflects a growing trend of moderation and balance in drinking habits. “Our consumption is really flat up until the pandemic, there’s a little bump in 2020, but its really after 2020 that sales really increase," Dr Fergal O'Connor , senior lecturer in Financial Economics at CUBS University College Cork in the Irish Examiner.
