'KCAP's Eurovea Towers in Bratislava, Published in ArchDaily' #KCAP's recent design competition winning entry, for #two #skyscrapers of 260m and 184m in #Bratislava—set to be the second tallest in the EU—was recently published in ArchDaily; the world's most-visited architecture website, renowned for its unparalleled coverage of cutting-edge projects: "...these towers will become key additions to the city's skyline and contribute significantly to its urban landscape by providing over 1.100 residential units with extensive city and landscape views. This district, once an industrial zone, has undergone substantial redevelopment, transforming into a mixed-use urban hub that combines residential, commercial, and leisure spaces..." Key to large-scale projects is a human-scale approach🚶♀️ The ambition of the Palma project is to transform an old industrial district into a vibrant neighbourhood. Although the size of the project itself is substantial, to achieve this goal the key is to think and design in human-scale, creating public spaces for all aspects of life, be it work, leisure, shopping, or running errands.🧘♂️ With this in mind, we teamed up with Mandaworks, an international studio based in Sweden. Their concept of architecture and public spaces for Palma is defined by the functional and structural diversity of each block. Buildings of various heights will give the impression of a growing city that has been created gradually and is characterized by a multitude of impulses. In addition, our wish is to transform the original industrial buildings into restaurants, markets, cinemas and other cultural spaces. Over the years, Mandaworks have successfully used design to bring about positive change in local communities. Reinventing an old office tower ✨🏢 Discourse on the reuse and adaptation of architecture is often centred on iconic heritage-listed buildings. But what about building stock that may be simply tired or ripe for densification? Retrofitting such structures can not only address the spatial needs of the future but also minimise emissions associated with building from scratch. Aalto has thought about the problem of simultaneous events and has solved it very elaborately. Despite this flexibility, trying to make changes to it turned out to be very difficult, due to its concrete construction.
