Investor Strategies Programme Officer, Climate Frameworks @ IIGCC | Driving Positive Change for a Greener Future.
🚨 New Resource Alert for IIGCC Members! Excited to announce the release of the Net Zero Investment Framework (NZIF 2.0) Sector Mapping published today at Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC). This tool is designed to help investors identify material and high-impact material sectors that are crucial to achieving net-zero goals. 🌍 This resource links the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) and Nomenclature of Economic Activities (NACE) frameworks, making it easier for investors to classify companies within their portfolios. It streamlines reporting on high-emission sectors, saving valuable time and effort while enhancing transparency and efficiency in the transition to a sustainable economy. Key benefits for investors: ✅ Streamlines company classification and reporting on high-emission sectors. ✅ Saves time by linking key data from trusted frameworks. ✅ Supports transparent portfolio analysis. 🔎While the mapping serves as a foundational guide, it also respects investors’ discretion in identifying high-impact assets, encouraging full transparency of methodologies used. 🔗 Members can access the full resource here: https://lnkd.in/du6b5rQR 👏🏻 Huge thanks to Tanguy Séné Lucian Peppelenbos Chris van der Merwe for providing valuable feedback during the review process and my colleague Adrian Fenton, PhD for all your support! If anyone wants to know more, please feel free to reach out! 🌱 #NZIF #NetZero #IIGCC #ResponsibleInvestment #ClimateAction

“The urgency is upon us. The time is now to be acting, and we really shouldn’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” On this week’s installment of Carbon Frontiers 2024, David Greely sits down with the Head of Environmental Markets at Abaxx Commodity Futures Exchange and Clearinghouse, Alasdair Were to discuss the new futures contracts and technologies that our #carbonmarkets need in order to develop faster, become more liquid, and scale. When asked how new markets and new #technology will come together to develop environmental markets into large, liquid markets that could rival today's biggest #commoditymarkets, Were he tells us: 🗯️ "If you look at the singular goal, it's really about a global price on #carbon. I'm not suggesting that there'll be a singular price on carbon; I think there will be a multitude of carbon prices. But the aim is to put an appropriate price on carbon on a global basis, that could be very different in the Democratic Republic of Congo versus the United States. But the tools that we need to achieve that are the same on the global basis. That's creating a harmonized #data platform that allows for the sharing of information for people to objectively assess and buy units or #carboncredits in a relatively seamless way that will instill trust in the market." 🌍Climate Risk remains a hot topic! Regulators expect Banks to ensure they are well capitalised for future climate related losses, with frameworks in place to capture climate-related risks including though capital models and credit ratings. But is this enough? Is the current level of disclosure reporting adequate and what's on the horizon when it comes to future requirements? 👉Come join us at this years FutureFit conference to discuss this in more detail: https://bit.ly/4dogQSl #climaterisk #capital #creditratings #regulatoryreporting #regtech

🗣 Mindy Lubber from Ceres Speaks Truth to Power Ceres, Inc. CEO and President Mindy Lubber recently testified before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust. Mindy discussed Ceres and its leadership role in Climate Action 100+ and Net Zero Asset Managers initiatives. Ceres is a nonprofit organization that works with investors and companies to make the business case for action as they address some of the greatest global financial challenges facing our world today such as 🌎 climate change, 💧 water scarcity, 🦠 pollution, and 🌲 nature loss. 💰 Mindy explains the financial risks that come along with these challenges. For example, the massive cost of extreme weather to the U.S. economy was nearly $93 billion last year. Climate Action 100+ is a global investor led initiative where shareholders engage with some of their largest portfolio companies on climate risk management. This is a key part of monitoring effective corporate governance for high emitting companies. 🌱 In 2022, companies representing more than 86% of total global market capitalization disclosed sustainability related information to their investors and more than 10,000 companies have set climate action goals or targets, including half of the largest 2,000 global companies. At Stance Capital we are proud to provide a sustainable fund that is fossil-free, weapons-free, and tobacco-free. My Global Witness colleague Giulia Bondi here on the need to close a legal loophole that allows banks and asset managers to profit from the destruction of climate-critical forests. As Giulia explains, billions and billions of dollars have been channelled from the EU’s biggest banks to forest-risk companies over the last few years. We and our partners are calling on the EU to introduce specific obligations for EU-based financial institutions to stop financial flows bankrolling #deforestation. https://lnkd.in/ejV-_d-R
