Day 2 of Computing at SETU (Waterford) Careers and Computing Week complete. Great engagement and curiosity on show from all the leaders of the future. Day 1 was a very active careers day with all SETU Extended Campus partner companies as well as day in the life presentations by our Unum colleagues. Day 2 We focused on the future industry for this AI first generation. Great opening addresses by SETU @Kathryn Kiely and our partner Gartner in Ireland. Thank you to Gareth Murphy, Bryan Hickson & Jason Medd . Followed by engaging sessions from Sarah Adderley, Robert Hogan and Ken O'Brien. Great Attendance and engagement from students and faculty. Special thanks to Tj McDonald and Noelle Dalton for organising another great event. Two days left

Such an honour for me to speak with-CS-Can Info-Can Distinguished Service award winning Dr. Lyons about academic and industry partnerships. Three key takeaways? 1. Be aware of each other’s time schedules and understand academics look at 3-5 year time horizons. 2. Agree upon how you are going to measure success. How you are evaluated internally and externally. What are the requirements of each partner. 3. Don’t just toss an industry project over the fence. Make sure it is a problem both parties are interested in solving. Bonus advice: Build time for strong collaboration. Great industry/academic partnerships are built on Trust & Respect. Watch the recording for other important insights!
