Reimagining the role of workplace culture in social change. CEO & Founder @ Call for Culture. Curator: Culture Impact Lab.
We’re looking for values-aligned partners and sponsors for our upcoming Culture Impact Lab in May! We have 2 ways for sponsors to make an impact: 1. Sponsor an event activation - our event is small (with less than 100 people) and action oriented. Participants range from c-suite to emerging leaders and change makers who are joining to create change and build a new world of work and culture. We still have sponsorship slots and in-kind sponsors for all of the great features of our event that focus on engaging, nourishing, and enabling this community. 2. Sponsor a participant or team to join - with a student rate or $850 and a standard rate starting at $1500, sponsors have already made it possible for us to invite 10 additional people to the event who wouldn’t have otherwise been able to swing the cost through our tuition grant. These folks are Founders, early stage entrepreneurs, non-profit leaders, self funded, or recently laid off due to organizations deprioritizing culture and DEI efforts. We’re also looking ahead to determine which city we will host the Culture Impact Lab at in 2025! If you’re interested in partnering and sponsoring at your city, reach out for a chat! Love this photo - we look like we might be in a spaceship, or a space-themed movie! And, in a way, we were - at a monster turn out for Asian Charity Services' latest Ignite workshop yesterday, we travelled through space and time to 2026 to see how we were doing on the #SDGs, via the #SDG2030 Games led by Benita Chick. Answer: not well enough. Unfortunately, neither are all the nations of the world, in hitting their SDGs and targets. The goal yesterday afternoon was to Find Common Ground [between Nonprofits and Corporates], aka #Collaboration - a drum I have been beating on since Day 1. Collaboration is not only essential, it is the bedrock upon which our #collective societal goals must be built, in order for there to be any hope of long term success. SDG#17 is the last SDG in terms of line up, but by no means the least. We saw for ourselves yesterday how so much more can be achieved when we strive for SDG#17 - [building] #Partnerships for the Goals. In a short 30-minute discussion, the 5 different nonprofits and 1 corporate represented in the group I was facilitating came up with 5 different potential projects on which to collaborate, for a magic boost to the community. No one player can do it by themselves - we need the Win-Win-Win sustainable outcomes that derive from Public-Private-Philanthropic solutions ➡ the amplifier effect that comes from building together, with impact. One comment made yesterday was that nonprofits don't have the resources (time, money, effort) to consider collaboration projects, given their constant fire-fighting mode in delivering their own services. When "locked" together yesterday, though, those different brain waves were certainly fired enough to make a difference. An action plan might be: 1. Intentionally carve out regular time for reflection 2. Actively consider collaboration 3. Move to #action Yes?

“Let’s build something together. And let’s build someone up together.” Eric Liu, cofounder and CEO of Citizen University is a visionary, builder and catalyst of better civic futures. This wonderful article by Drew Lindsay in The Chronicle of Philanthropy captures the outsized (and even unexpected!) impact that can happen when people come together from different backgrounds and experiences to lift each other up and advance each other's work in additive, generative, expansive - and yes, joyful ways. There’s so much I’ve learned - and gained - from being a part of this extraordinary community. Below are a few additional personal nuggets I've observed about why Civic Collaboratory conveninings are truly "mutual aid on steroids": 💡 "Commitments of Capital" can come in multiple forms. Capital is often talked about in a narrow way usually related to financial resources. Instead, we can think about giving and receiving capital through an abundant lens: social capital of connections, relational capital of supports, intellectual and experience capital of ideas and know-how. Most importantly, the human capital of our presence, curiosity and care. 🔑 Words and rituals matter. When you respond to requests with offers of help, start with the phrase “I commit...” (not "I think" or "I could"). “I commit” communicates clarity, intention, and action. ❤️ When bonds of trust and affection are authentically cultivated and honored, the most incredible things can happen. The partnerships and friendships I’ve made through this unique community have fueled innovative, human and heart-lead civics efforts that have reached tens of thousands of people. (Honoring you… Sam Ball Shamichael Hallman Sanda Balaban Cheryl Hughes Debilyn Molineaux Caroline Klibanoff Kaz Brecher Rich Tafel Daniel Stid Zoey Cane Belyea Paul Beyer Kayla DeMonte Vicki Rubio among so many others!) And then guess what happens? When you experience the personal, social, and communal impact of this kind of environment, you want to re-create it for others.. across diverse geographies, ideologies, and communities. BONUS Listening/ Reading: I've long been hoping to infuse Eric's perspectives into K12 classrooms and learning environments. Several years ago, Tim Fish and I spoke with Eric on the New View EDU podcast. It was one of my favorites and definitely worth checking out even if you're not a teacher! https://lnkd.in/gp4damv3
Eric Liu is my hero and his brainchild Citizen University’s Civic Collaboratory is my happy place. And it can be yours too, at least for the length of time it takes you to read this FANTASTIC article by Drew Lindsay in the The Chronicle of Philanthropy to learn more about the Collaboratory—“mutual aid on steroids” as Eric calls it— and how it demonstrates what constructive, collaborative, cross-partisan democracy can look and feel like. Need extra incentive to dig in? You can read about how the amazing Uma Kalkar and I pitched YVote’s Democracy Camp for national expansion—and garnered a $10k investment on the spot from the estimable Ian Simmons, along with a bevy of other great commitments and partnerships. Need an ADDITIONAL incentive? There’s a glorious photo of another of my civic heroes, Lisa Kay Solomon, and me at Collaboratory. Note: this is part of a wonderful newish section of the Chronicle called The Commons that was launched “to explore the ideas, conversations, and solutions for a fractured country.” I can’t recommend it highly enough but be forewarned that it’s addictive: I want to read EVERY article they publish. Check it out!

Invitations to conferences and similar events used to bring me a great sense of joy and happiness earlier. However now it only brings a sense of wariness because most of these opportunities presented to youth leaders/social workers are not matched with funding, making the opportunity highly inaccessible and exclusionary. Knowing the funding scenario in the social sector, I understand the limited resources that organizers have to work with and the high demand that exists for those. But self funded conference spots lead to only certain voices who have the required socio-economic capital being represented at discussion tables and decision making platforms. And that isn't fair. The topics that are discussed, the perspectives presented depend on standpoint knowledge, experience and identity of attendees. And I don't see things changing soon despite many youth leaders speaking up about it. So I have received an invitation to the ECOSOC Youth Forum taking place in New York in two weeks time. And this isn't funded so I will in all likelihood not be able to attend. Finding sponsors within a short span is quite difficult and I do not wish to do any fundraiser. I feel there are much more urgent issues that public funds and donations should be directed towards. But nevertheless, I would like to keep this invite on LinkedIn as a reminder of the challenges that still continue. I hope the discussion and debate at the conference will be enriching and effective. By any chance if any organization would like to fund my participation, please connect. #ECOSOC #YouthForum #Conference #Funding #Sponsor #YPS #WPS #Peacebuilding #Youthleadership #YouthActivism #NewYork #UN
