🌏📚 As a postgraduate and international student I find myself navigating the challenges of seeking employment and summer internships in Australia. The process isn't as straightforward as it may seem, despite the country's relaxed rules on working. 🤔 Recently, the Australian government has made changes to the work hours cap for student visa holders, providing an opportunity to work for up to 48 hours per fortnight. While this may sound promising, statistics show that only a small percentage of international students exercise their post-study working rights, and even fewer become permanent residents. 💡 Understanding the intricacies of working in Australia as an international student is essential. The regulations concerning working hours before and after graduation come with their own set of conditions. 👉 The landscape of employment for international graduates poses its challenges. Securing a job aligned with one's field of study takes time, and many graduates report accepting unrelated positions at lower wages. 💭 Furthermore, work experience opportunities, such as internships and placements, have been scarce due to COVID-19's impact on education delivery. 🚗 While the road to finding employment may be challenging, I am committed to putting in the effort, seizing opportunities to gain experience, and #networking within the community. 🎓 Excited to share a milestone on my educational journey! 🌏📚 As a current Master's student at The University of Queensland, specialising in Human Resource Management, I am thrilled to have completed my first semester with distinction in two courses. The path hasn't been without its challenges, but I firmly believe that stepping out of our comfort zones is crucial for personal and professional growth. Moving to Australia was a decision driven by the desire to learn from diverse and intellectual peers, both students and teachers, who would challenge and inspire me to face real-world challenges. Secondly, as the Events Officer of the Association of Postgraduate Students, I've also had the privilege of managing and organising events with an exceptional team, including the Socials team and a group of dedicated interns. 🤔 Here are a few valuable learnings from this experience, which I intend to take into consideration in the coming semester: 1️⃣ Human Resources as a Catalyst for Growth: Working within the realm of HR has taught me that it goes beyond simply managing personnel; it is about fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment that empowers individuals to thrive.
