A shipyard, located in Upper Nyack, NY has dramatically scaled it's operations focusing almost entirely on commercial ships. They are CLOSE to receiving a permit that would allow them to drastically increase the space they use for mooring in the Hudson River to 45 acres. That's more than 45 football fields. A portion of this permit would allow for DREDGING! Help us protect our river, our local environment, health & safety! In a matter of days, a mooring permit for 45 ACRES (that’s like 45 football fields) on the Hudson River, in front of a historic residential community could pass! The Application seeks to pre-approve multiple dredging events that will dig up 1,500 cubic yards of toxic sludge and then transport them through our community via dozens of trucks all without municipal or environmental oversight. If this permit passes it will set a precedent which could allow for mooring fields to be constructed in other river towns along the Hudson. This would be devastating for our local environment, the 3 endangered species that depend on the river (bald eagle & 2 types of sturgeon), and local residents. The mooring field will be seen from as far away as from the top of Hook Mountain to the apartment buildings along the river in downtown Nyack, affecting hundreds of homeowners, obstructing businesses like the local boating clubs and negatively impacting the river’s wildlife as a result of its construction. We are looking for a public hearing so all residents in the area can attend and be heard. Please sign the petition today, time is limited!
