A recent survey reveals that Gen Z employees are nearly twice as likely to discuss their mental health issues openly at work compared to other generations. This shift reflects a broader societal movement to destigmatize mental health issues, but it's crucial to understand the balance. ⚖ While it's positive to foster an open environment, there's a risk that too much emphasis could lead to negative outcomes. Research suggests that constant focus on mental health issues can exacerbate them, a phenomenon known as "concept creep." This means expanding definitions of trauma and anxiety could lead individuals to misinterpret normal emotional discomfort as signs of mental disorders. 🧠 𝐓𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬, 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭 𝐚 𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤: Ensure that roles are meaningful and align with employees' values. Mental health awareness isn't just about one day of the year on the 10th October, it should be something we focus on every day. Bramwith's trained mental health officer Paras, has shared below some of her insights about why employers should be factoring in the importance of caring for employee's mental health as a standard. In today’s modern workplace, many of us face constant pressures, tight deadlines, and overwhelming workloads. These stressors can lead to burnout, decreased motivation, and diminished performance. When we ignore mental health, we risk not only our well-being but also our effectiveness as employees and team members. Research shows that companies prioritizing mental health see significant returns on their investment. For instance, studies have indicated that workplaces with strong mental health support experience lower absenteeism and turnover rates. Employees who feel supported are more engaged, leading to higher-quality work and innovation. A positive mental health environment fosters creativity. When employees feel safe and valued, they are more likely to share ideas and collaborate, driving the organisation forward. In contrast, when mental health is neglected, fear and anxiety can stifle creativity and inhibit problem-solving. There’s sometimes a misconception that focusing on mental health detracts from productivity. In reality, supporting mental well-being can enhance focus and efficiency. Simple practices like regular breaks, open communication, and access to mental health resources empower employees to manage stress and maintain their energy levels. Prioritising mental health is not a luxury or nice to have; it is a necessity for a thriving workplace. By recognising its importance, we cultivate an environment where everyone can flourish. #worldmentalhealthawarenessday

On World Mental Health Day, it's important to highlight this year's theme: Mental Health in the Workplace. I'm lucky to be part of a team that truly supports my mental health, and as recruitment specialists, we advocate for open conversations and mental health support in the workplace. Let's continue to build workplaces where mental health matters💜 #WorldMentalHealthDay #WorkplaceWellness #MentalHealthMatters

Organizational Development | Change Management | EDI | Leadership Development | Employee Experience | MBA candidate | Sprott School of Business, Carleton University
On this Mental Health Day, I've been reflecting on how mental health impacts each of us uniquely, regardless of our roles, backgrounds, or experiences. In our diverse workplace, one person's daily challenges may differ greatly from another's, yet all are equally significant. Consider colleagues who are juggling tight deadlines and high-stakes projects, feeling the pressure to perform without falter. Others might be navigating significant life changes like relocating, managing personal loss, or dealing with chronic health issues that aren't immediately visible. Some may struggle with stress, anxiety, or depression, unsure of how to seek support in a professional setting. By acknowledging these varied experiences, we can foster a workplace culture that genuinely supports everyone's mental well-being. This involves creating an environment where open dialogue is encouraged, and sharing personal challenges is met with empathy and understanding.....𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁! Leaders, play a pivotal role in promoting mental well-being. Here are some practical ways we can offer support: - 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Encourage honest conversations about mental health. Let your team know it's okay to speak up and that their feelings are valid. - 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀: Ensure that information about mental health services, like counseling or employee assistance programs, is easily available and regularly communicated. - 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: Demonstrate a healthy work-life balance yourself. When leaders prioritize their own well-being, it sets a standard for the entire team. - 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Whenever possible, provide flexible working arrangements. This can help team members manage personal responsibilities alongside professional ones. - 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺: Invest in training to recognize signs of mental health struggles. Understanding is a powerful tool in offering meaningful support. Let's take this day as an opportunity to commit to recognizing and addressing the mental health needs of all our team members. Together, we can build a more supportive, resilient organization where everyone's well-being is a shared priority. #Management #HumanResources #Leadership #Culture #Indigenous #HR #workplace

🌟 Let's Talk About Mental Health 🌟 In a world where we often prioritize physical health, mental health can sometimes take a backseat. But it's time to change that narrative. As professionals, it's crucial to recognize the importance of mental well-being, not just for ourselves but for our teams and colleagues as well. Here are a few reasons why mental health matters in the workplace: 1️⃣ Productivity: Research shows that when employees are mentally healthy, they're more engaged, focused, and productive. Investing in mental health initiatives can have a positive impact on overall workplace performance. 2️⃣ Innovation: Creativity flourishes in environments where people feel supported and valued. When mental health is prioritized, individuals feel more comfortable sharing ideas and taking risks, leading to greater innovation. 3️⃣ Retention and Recruitment: A company that prioritizes mental health sends a powerful message to both current and potential employees. People want to work in environments that care about their well-being, leading to higher retention rates and attracting top talent. So, what can we do to promote mental health in the workplace? ✔️ Foster a culture of open communication where employees feel safe discussing their mental health challenges without fear of judgment. ✔️ Provide resources such as counseling services, mental health days, and workshops on stress management and mindfulness. ✔️ Lead by example. As leaders, it's important to prioritize our own mental health and encourage others to do the same. ✔️ Break the stigma. Let's talk openly about mental health and encourage others to do the same. It's okay not to be okay, and seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Together, we can create workplaces where mental health is not only acknowledged but actively supported. "Experienced Director & Psychologist |Educator | Human Resource Trainer | 26+ Years of Transforming Lives & Organizations | NS - NLP Master Practitioner & CPD ICC Leadership Coach"
Every year, we observe World Mental Health Day on 10th Oct, and this year, the focus—highlighted by the World Health Organization (WHO)—is "Prioritising Mental Health at workplace. Mental well-being in professional settings is often overlooked, despite its critical role in both individual and organizational success. 🧠 Mental health often goes unnoticed, not because it’s unimportant, but because its impact is subtle—until it’s not. Stress and anxiety quietly erode creativity, focus, and team morale, affecting performance long before burnout becomes obvious. Ask yourself: • How often do we push through fatigue, hoping it won’t catch up with us? • How much potential is lost when stress dulls our ability to think clearly? It’s clear that fostering psychological safety in the workplace is essential. When employees feel secure and supported, they can fully contribute and innovate without fear or hesitation. 🔑 So, how can we build a mentally healthy workplace? • Open the conversation: Regularly talk about mental health and normalize it. • Lead by example: Leaders who prioritize mental health create healthier teams and cultures. • Professional Help: Bring in a Psychologist at your workplace. This year, we’re focusing on how to make workplaces healthier for everyone. Drawing on my experience helping thousands of professionals and organizations create environments that support mental well-being, I know these small changes can make a huge difference. 💬 Want to bring these strategies to your organization? BREAKING FREE FROM TOXIC WORKPLACES: PRIORITIZING MENTAL HEALTH IN A CHAOTIC WORLD As we observe World Mental Health Day, I'm reminded of my own journey through the dark tunnels of a toxic work environment. The constant stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion nearly consumed me. But I learned a valuable lesson: prioritizing mental health is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Toxic workplaces are breeding grounds for mental health crises. They foster a culture of fear, belittle creativity, and suffocate individuality. The consequences are devastating: - 61% of employees experience anxiety due to work-related stress (American Psychological Association) - 44% of employees report feeling burned out (Gallup) - Mental health issues cost the global economy $2.5 trillion annually (World Health Organization) My personal experience taught me that: 1. Self-awareness is key: Recognize the signs of burnout and toxic behavior. 2. Boundaries are essential: Learn to say "no" and prioritize your well-being. 3. Support systems matter: Surround yourself with positive influences. 4. Self-care is non-negotiable: Make time for activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul. As we navigate the complexities of modern worklife, remember: YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS NOT EXPENDABLE. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. THERE IS HOPE! Let's break free from toxic workplaces and cultivate environments that: - Foster empathy and understanding - Encourage open communication - Support mental health initiatives - Promote work-life balance Join the conversation: #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #BreakTheStigma #ToxicWorkplaceAwareness #SelfCareRevolution #PrioritizeYourMind #HealthyWorkplaces #WellnessAtWork Let's prioritize our mental health and create a better, healthier world.

The pandemic has highlighted the profound impact that stress, anxiety, and burnout can have on employee productivity and well-being. This exhaustion has serious consequences for both health and team performance. ▪ 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆: It is estimated that mental health disorders cost the global economy around €950 billion yearly due to productivity losses and absenteeism. ▪ 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Companies that invest in mental health support programs for their employees see a 12% increase in productivity and a reduction in turnover. Let’s talk about mental health at work. Yes, it’s that time of year again when your LinkedIn feed will be filled with posts on the same topic. Honestly, that’s a good thing. I’ve noticed a significant shift in the conversation around mental health at work since I experienced burnout myself, exactly 10 years ago. Back then, burnout was wrapped in awkwardness, embarrassment, and, most of all, silence. No one really knew how to talk about it, myself included. I’m incredibly grateful for the professionals who supported me through that time. I learned a lot from the experience, got back on my feet, and here I am. Fast forward to today, talking about mental health at work fortunately has started to lose its taboo. As part of my work, I have many conversations about how to better organise work, how teams can thrive through improved communication and connection, the difference between a boss and a leader, and the importance of personal leadership. Employee wellbeing isn't a buzzword—it's a critical indicator of a healthy work environment. Prioritising mental health isn’t just an employee perk or the latest talent-attraction strategy; it’s essential for building thriving teams and (drum roll) high-performing organisations. None of this should be news to anyone—unless you’ve been living in a cave these past few years. But there’s still much to do. I’m not writing this post to lecture on how to do better—I want to keep these conversations going, not just today, but every day. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #EmployeeWellbeing #BurnoutRecovery (Photo was taken during a two-month break from work I took last year, supported by my employer)
