25 Years, Served 30,000+ Leaders, from 15 Countries. | I equip managers with professional coaching & facilitation skills to help them become better leaders, enabling them to empower their teams to enhance performance.
Thank you, HRD Corp - Human Resource Development Corporation , for inviting me to share in the first #HRDCBootcamp2024 on How Coaching and Facilitation can Enhance Training Effectiveness Thanks to my wingman Sze Chieng Ho, IAC-MP™ for being there with me. In the dynamic field of Learning and development (L&D), integrating coaching and facilitation into the design of interventions is not just an option; it's a game-changer. Let's explore how these powerful approaches can transform the effectiveness of L&D initiatives right from the start 🔍 Need Analysis through Coaching Conversations The journey begins in the Need Analysis phase. Here, we adopt a coaching mindset to delve deep into the learning requirements. We gain crystal-clear insights into the desired learning outcomes by engaging in coaching conversations with stakeholders. This is more than just gathering information; it's about understanding the underlying needs and aspirations that drive the demand for training. Through empathetic listening and probing questions, we uncover the nuanced expectations and specific goals of our clients. 👥 Engaging Teams with Process Facilitation and Team Coaching When working with groups, such as the L&D teams or panels, the approach shifts to encompass process facilitation and Team Coaching. This phase is crucial for collective clarity. We can employ a range of facilitation techniques and coaching tools tailored to group dynamics. These methods enable teams to articulate and converge on their desired outcomes. It's a collaborative process where each member's voice is heard, and a shared vision is crafted. This collective clarity is the cornerstone for designing a program that resonates with the entire team. 🎯 Aligning Expectations for Tailored Program Design This in-depth engagement serves a critical purpose: aligning expectations. By understanding the unique context and objectives of our clients, we can tailor our L&D solutions to fulfill the organisation's specific needs. Whether it's leadership development, skill enhancement, or behavioral training, our programs are crafted to address the specific needs identified through our initial coaching and facilitation efforts. Incorporating coaching and facilitation into L&D design is not just about adding steps to the process; it's about enriching the entire journey. It ensures that every L&D intervention is rooted in a deep understanding of client needs and is designed to deliver measurable results. Let's embrace this holistic approach to unlock the full potential of our L&D initiatives. 6 ways Training Specialists can create a Coaching & Mentoring work culture In our last post, we revealed how a Coaching & Mentoring work culture can reduce the workload of a training specialist by half. Prev post: https://lnkd.in/dVGS64h3 Here are 6 practical ways to create a Coaching & Mentoring work culture: 🔴 Get the HR department on board with this idea -believe me, you can't achieve this without them 🔴 Define the goal of the coaching & mentoring culture you want to create. For instance, to discover the gaps or areas the employees need to improve on. Or to discover the specific and personal needs of the employees. 🔴 Identify the mentors. This is usually the senior employees. 🔴 Group the mentors and their mentees. This works best if they're grouped based on their work departments. 🔴 Train the mentors. Remember that coaching & mentoring can have negative effects when not done right, so don't assume that the mentors know what they're doing. We advise that you take our Level 7 coaching and mentoring course to help guide you on how to train the mentors who will guide younger employees. You can also get the course for the mentors, and we offer a discount for companies. Send a DM or leave a comment to learn more. 🔴 Create a safe and supportive environment. This experiment can only work in an environment where employees feel safe to share their challenges, insights, and feedback. Our Level 7 Coaching & Mentoring course will give you practical steps on how to create a safe work environment. Want to learn more? Drop a comment below, and let's continue this conversation! Coaching provides a safe environment for people to think and speak, exploring by themselves on how to grow and be a better version of themselves. On the other hand, facilitation aligns team to make effective decision through inclusive and fun processes. Both are encouraging people to co-create and to have more meaningful conversations with trust and respect among the team. Ultimately, a quality relationship is forged. Captain Shan creatively combined both the approaches and coined the term -- Facilitative Team Coaching. Confirming the effectiveness and success of facilitating team conversations with coaching principles and facilitation tools and methods to be utilized based on the present moment, the RESPECT Model developed by him is a powerful facilitative team coaching model, also usable in both facilitation and coaching processes. It's that agile. "We wish to equip coaches graduating from our school not only learn to do one-to-one coaching, but also knowing the difference of team coaching and group coaching. Besides providing coaching services, you can also have the framework to develop coaching culture in the organizations to help more people embracing coaching." -- Captain Dr Shan, CEO & Founder of Teamcoach International. As the current cohorts are completing their learning modules with the Facilitative Team Coaching and Developing a Coaching Culture Modules, we are ready to journey on with the upcoming cohort in July. Ever wondered how coaching and mentoring can transform your team's performance? Coaching and mentoring are two powerful tools in the world of employee development, and their impact is undeniable. For instance, in many organisations, line managers have taken on the role of coaches, integrating coaching into their daily interactions to improve performance and develop skills. Take a regional finance director, for example, who mentors a junior colleague, guiding them through complex board presentations and strategic budgeting. This mentorship goes beyond simple instruction, fostering a relationship where both parties learn and grow. Such examples highlight the importance of these practices in a learning and development strategy. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development - IOM College (CIPD) latest factsheet delves into the differences and applications of coaching and mentoring. It explores how to create a coaching culture, the roles of internal and external coaches, and the key principles for effective coaching. Whether it’s using coaching to enhance interpersonal skills or leveraging mentoring for succession planning, these approaches offer tailored development opportunities. Are you ready to incorporate coaching and mentoring into your strategy to drive success?

51% of companies with a healthy coaching culture enjoy higher revenues than their industry peers – Leaving no doubt that building an internal coaching culture puts businesses at a distinct advantage. However, in my experience, there’s one part of this process that many companies are still struggling with. 👍 They understand the importance of building a coaching culture, and 👍 They hire coach educators like me to train internal coaches within their teams, 👎 But they don’t follow through with nurturing those coaches and creating an environment that facilitates their work and impact. An organisation’s role does not end with training managers in coaching skills or internal accredited coaches. They still need to: 🌷 Provide them with the right resources to coach effectively 🌷 Provide them with ongoing group coaching supervision sessions as part of their continuous professional development 🌷 Invest in their continuous professional training and development 🌷 Educate teams on this individual’s role, and how they can contribute 🌷 And make sure that they set goals for the internal coach, and measure their impact on the company's culture, retention and engagement Without the right support, companies are risking: Losing the investment they made into building a coaching culture, Returning to the old ways of working, And dismissing coaching itself as ‘ineffective’. If you’ve trained internal coaches, remember that you haven’t finished the race, but embarked on a journey of continuous growth and learning. So ensure that you follow through with your intention – I can assure you that it’s worth it, in every way. Internal coaches, I would love to hear your experiences around this in the comments! #Coaching #ProfessionalDevelopment #Success
