It's really encouraging to see companies like Apple supporting new approaches to meet environmental and social targets. Rural drinking water is not top of many corporate ESG agendas as it's been historically difficult with opaque results. Results based contracts reduce risks with verification processes to make corporate transactions more feasible. We have more to learn to scale and sustain this work so many more companies can invest in these opportunities.

Large companies may have it easier than most other enterprises, but the impact they have on the global value chain and anything related to how much they pollute is not something to take lightly, considering how hard it can be to calculate Scope 3 emissions. If Apple can commit to something as big as this I don't see why other companies can't tag along. You can hate all you want on large companies, and sure, they may have other problems (I'm looking at you, battery life), but at least in my books this is a solid win. https://lnkd.in/dDiRGQYZ

Battery swapping is rarely seen globally because it requires both specialized EVs that support the feature and a network of swapping stations. But it has found a strong foothold in China. By the end of 2023, the total number of battery swapping stations in China reached 3,567, of which 2,333 were operated by Nio. The International Energy Agency hailed China a “leader in global battery swapping infrastructure.” https://lnkd.in/dgK-qupV

Earn a Grand a Month Plugging In Your Car Something to look forward to, eh? Not just free Solar charging your EV from your roof to save $3,000 a year in petrol and maintenance, not just charging your home in peak hours to save $1800 a year, but up to $12,000 a year is available in Frequency Control and Ancillary Services markets (FCAS). Software and hardware from the likes of Amber, Reposit and LocalVolts (with more to come once AS4777 is ratified) will allow EV owners to leverage one of the ten FCAS markets which tap into the one second to five minute interval extremes where $16,000/mwh is available. I was privy to seeing an early version of this in real time last month when Zen Industries’ Hannes Oosthuizen demonstrated his home battery’s sophisticated software on LocalVolts at Narara Ecovillage. Second by second it jumped and slumped. Great little game that pays you while you sleep. FCAS is an extreme response to supply and demand and is one of the few benefits available to early adopters. Over time it will mellow out, but for the next year or two will put some spark in your step.
