Stage IB1 #cervicalcancer (.ie., >5 mm depth of stromal invasion and ≤2 cm in greatest dimension) is usually treated with radical #hysterectomy. However, in a randomized trial in 640 patients with IB1 cervical cancer, radical vs. simple hysterectomy with lymph node assessment resulted in similar 3-year recurrence rates (2.2 and 2.5 percent, respectively). Although data are limited, simple hysterectomy with lymph node assessment may be an acceptable alternative to radical hysterectomy for IB1 cervical cancer.
