Attention NYC High Schools, STEM teachers, and parents! Help your gamer students apply early for Urban Arts' fun, rigorous, and free after school game design and CS program, where they create their own video game. Students learn the programming language C# to code their own video games with Unity 3D and create their own art, music/SFX and narratives for their games. Then, they'll be eligible to level-up to advanced programs at Urban Arts and receive college access support. Last year alone, we helped our students earn over $7 million in college scholarships. WHEN: October - June, after school or on Saturdays WHERE: At our learning lab near Union Square, or virtually on Discord WHO: Rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders HOW: Our application process is simple and easy: Students join a brief online info session, then fill out our early application with a parent/guardian. If you believe your students would love to hear about this program, we may be able to schedule a one-hour Game Design Masterclass at your school, where students can learn about our program and have a fun, hands-on game design experience. This offer is based on availability, and we’d require at least 25 students in attendance. Reach out to sia@urbanarts.org with inquiries. Learn more & sign up: https://lnkd.in/eDACPny7

That's not STEAM ❌ That's one of the standards of #STEAM is technology ✅ In our STEAM program, we focus on integrating technology by teaching students foundational programming concepts. This equips them to independently create games or applications as part of their projects. My role is to guide students on how to learn and conduct effective research, enabling them to explore various methods of coding. Each student applies their unique thought process to write code, resulting in diverse interpretations of the same project. This approach increases their creativity, encourages individuality, and promotes collaborative learning as students inspire and learn from one another.

#CSEdWeek is an annual call to action to inspire students to learn Computer Science and for us to come together as a community to advocate for equity within the field. Game design initiatives like ours are changing the trajectory for K-12 students nationwide in STEAM education and career paths. We provide CS education in multiple ways: We partner with Minecraft Education for our Creative Coders program for middle schoolers, securing the very students who self-select out of CS first. We teach 300+ hours of high-skill coursework in high schools across the country and in our Learning Lab in NYC. Our custom APCompSci curriculum, Game On, is newly approved by The College Board this May 2024! We created Gaming Pathways, the first public-option, 4-year Digital Game Design degree with CCNY so our students can access #TechWithoutDebt. As governments mandate CS instruction, we’re already there with effective, engaging curricula and intensive teacher training. We’re full STEAM ahead! #CSEdWeek #STEM #STEAM #Gaming #TechForGood #UrbanArts #Education #CreativeCoders #APCompSci
