Urban Grid is honored to be a steadfast supporter of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, aligning with its mission to preserve and safeguard one of the world's most cherished natural resources. Over the past three years, our contributions exceeding $100,000 have bolstered the CBF's efforts to "Save the Bay," encompassing its expansive 64,000-square-mile watershed which is home to 3,000 plant and animal species. As a #cleanenergy company dedicated to combating climate change, we deeply value the Chesapeake Bay's pivotal role in our environment. A heartfelt thank you to CBF President and CEO, Hilary Harp Falk, and Taryn Dwan, Director of Stewardship & Events, and the entire CBF team for hosting a terrific Bands in the Sand Event last weekend, raising critical funds and awareness for the work ahead. Lastly, we were delighted to be joined this year by veterans from two local organizations we support, American Legion Post 278 and Warrior Events. We thank you for your service and your shared commitment to the greater Annapolis community. #urbangridgives #supportourveterans #communitycommitment

This database reflect the efforts of The Pew Charitable Trusts to promote the use of nature-based solutions by state and local governments to help fortify communities in the face of more frequent and severe disasters. Nature-based solutions are interventions that use natural processes and ecosystem services—ecological processes or functions that have value to people—to build resilience to floods, wildfires, droughts, and extreme heat. https://ow.ly/hBZu50SCy1M

Friday inspiration: WWT Rebrand. Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust rebrand. Weapons of mass creation. Good work. New brand work from my old agency home, Good Agency: a new brand and brand purpose for international wetland restoration charity WWT. Few people realise what incredible, superpowered ecosystems wetlands are and the impact their restoration could have on our world. In the fight against the climate crisis, wetlands are a powerful weapon. Every time a wetland is restored, it locks up carbon – even faster than a forest can. The UK is losing wetlands at a staggering rate. 87% are gone, and much of what is left is in danger. Through its rebrand, WWT champions wetlands as that rare and special thing: a natural solution to our greatest challenge and the path to the future we can all rely on. https://lnkd.in/eWRJ2fJW #Charity #Brand #Purpose

There is a purpose behind each field of work. Over the past few years, I’ve learned the importance of being a team player when disaster strikes, interacting with those affected by storms, and educating others on how to help those impacted. This video illustrates our course of action when disaster strikes. I couldn’t be prouder to be part of the SBP team! Go SBP!!!

The south west coastline is currently experiencing an increase in cliff falls and landslips as a result of an increase in extreme weather events. Since March last year there have been 11 significant falls, with two in the last week in Cornwall and on the Jurassic Coast. The Association estimates that it costs £1,500 per mile per year to protect and improve the 630 mile National Trail. SWCP National Trails Officer Lorna Sherriff recently spoke with BBC News about the work the charity does to protect the Path and discusses the impact that climate change is having on the Trail. The ongoing wildfires across British Columbia and Alberta are undeniable evidence of the imminent risk that natural disasters pose to arts, culture, and heritage institutions, the collections they safeguard, and the communities they serve. Museums, galleries, and heritage organizations care for tens of millions of objects, photographs, archival records, and irreplaceable cultural heritage in British Columbia which are vulnerable to disasters like floods, fires, and other climate emergencies. The BC Heritage Emergency Response Network (BC HERN) and the BC Museums Association (BCMA) partnered in 2021 to create a new contingency fund that will allow skilled heritage emergency responders to mobilize and begin recovery and salvage efforts for museums, galleries, and cultural organizations across BC when emergencies strike. To date, nearly $20,000 has been raised in preparation for future emergency responses. Each dollar you donate helps museums to prepare for the worst and helps to protect irreplaceable heritage from being lost forever. ➡️ Learn more about this initiative and how you can support on the BCMA website: https://lnkd.in/drUM5ehB #BCMA #BCCulture #BCHeritage #BCMuseums #ClimateChange #ClimateEmergency @BCHERN

To Hell with Hurricane Helene As a former #emergencyresponder, I am accustomed to a brittle operating environment; balance can only occur with resources. As the death toll rises, communities in FEMA Region 4 need more resources. For those of us who are not part of organizations in the fight to save lives, We can donate! I am endorsing Samaritan's Purse. Families and people trying to contact loved ones can call 2-1-1 or visit unitedwaync.org to fill out a request form to add them to search and rescue efforts. For those impacted, an application for assistance can be made through disasterassistance.gov or 1-800-621-3362. The experience of Hurricane Helene changed so many communities because who would have ever thought a tropical storm could impact an inland mountain region? We all need to realize that while nature brings chaos and destruction, our collective strength lies in connections with one another. The importance of relationships, empathy, and collaboration highlights the fragility of our environment. As communities continue to weather the storm and upcoming storms that follow, let us embrace the philosophy that balance is vital to resilience. Hurricane Helene is more than just a storm; it catalyzes change, resilience, and unity. Let's unify a mindset to “love thy neighbor” and emerge stronger. We learn that amidst the chaos, we find strength in each other, and in that strength, we discover our true capacity as humans to weather any storm. I hope for the safety of all of our communities and emergency responders. Thank you all for your energy and tireless, selfless service.
