🦸🏼♂️ COMMUNITY HERO! I can’t even begin to describe the incredible work that this guy does for his community. It comes as no surprise that Jon Radford is a finalist for the ‘Community Focus’ category at the BFA awards, as he makes such an incredible impact across his local area. Jon came on board with the FFF with a mission to make football fun for the city of Exeter and to give back to his local community. His emotional ties to where he lives has resulted in a community-led approach which has inadvertently supersized his business. It’s so true that when you give more than you receive, you tend to win. Jon and his wife Becky give their community so much value through community-based initiative and here’s a few examples: 👉🏻 Decreasing anti-social behaviour through free football sessions in a local park. 👉🏻 Organising for participants to be mascots at Exeter City football matches. 👉🏻 Sponsoring Exeter City women’s team. 👉🏻 Growing female participation by running girls only sessions. 👉🏻 Delivering HAF funded activities and hot meals for children eligible free school meals, in the school holidays. I could go on and list loads more, but there’s a character limit! Jon’s values and love for his community has driven his business success. This isn’t a business development strategy though, it’s pure passion for giving children and families opportunities. TRYING TO GET EXTRACURRICULARS ON FOR R1 The ideal is to have ECs that don’t immediately flag “I’m trying to get into b-school by doing this.” Choose something that is a natural extension of your experience or background. If you’re already into football/soccer - how about helping underprivileged children find the means to play soccer after school? Another option is to pick something aligned with your goal as stated in the application. And, if possible, pick something that will culminate in some observable/anecdotal or quantifiable positive impact. For example, a being on the board/committee of a fundraiser that takes place before your application deadline. Would ideally provide a good story that illustrates your character, and helps them get to know you as a person, if used for an essay or interview response.

NCAA Guidelines for Civic and Community Scholarships – What You Need to Know Local organizations like civic clubs and businesses often provide scholarships to student-athletes. Still, following NCAA rules is essential if the recipient plans to compete in Division I or II sports. Here's what donors and organizations need to know: If athletics participation is not a factor in awarding the scholarship, it’s considered aid with no relationship to athletics. If sports achievements are part of the criteria, it falls under aid from an established program. Scholarships considering athletic performance are generally allowed, but they can't restrict the student's college choice or have ties to the athlete’s future school. Otherwise, the scholarship could count against team limits. When I joined Leadership Tampa Bay over a year ago, I made two commitments/goals: (1) commit to openness, in hopes of better understanding our community (2) commit to action, in hopes of making a positive impact Education, particularly early-childhood education, became the focus of where our Leadership Tampa Bay class would make our impact. The 3rd Grade is a critical point for students with regard to reading proficiency - in a perfect world, 'you learn to read up to the 3rd Grade and you read to learn thereafter'. However, the world is not perfect and so many children are left behind at this critical juncture in a child's education journey. Research suggests that taking the classroom environment outdoors improves the learning experience in a variety of positive and measurable ways. Our goal is to raise $25K to develop an outdoor classroom for Potter Elementary School, right here in Tampa - a school that could use a resource like an outdoor classroom to enhance their student's learning experience. We have created the design, lined up contractors, and committed to the school - now we just need the funds! For #PhilanthropyThursday we are highlighting Evans Scholars 🎓 The Western Golf Association conducts championships for professional and amateur golfers, promotes the use of youth caddies and supports the Evans Scholars Foundation's efforts to award full tuition and housing college scholarships to high-achieving caddies with limited financial means. With college costs rising, families everywhere are in need of financial assistance. Evans Scholars Foundations helps send deserving young caddies to college! In 2022, the Western Golf Association and Evans Scholars Foundation continued on a path of record growth; they have 1,100 Evans Scholars at more than 20 universities! They successfully raised $371 million for to achieve this goal. Evans Scholars form supportive communities at universities nationwide. Despite many of their scholars coming from circumstances that put top colleges out of reach or make navigating the college experience difficult, they excel to the tune of a cumulative 3.3 GPA and 95 percent graduation rate.
