One of the most basic yet most important decisions an Architect can make is to draw the correct drawing. As Architects, we fundamentally use drawings and visual aids to communicate our ideas. Sometimes these drawings are lost on others who may prefer a phone call or an email to communicate ‘something’ however emaile or phone calls don’t get things built….drawing do. This section through an aircraft carriers successfully captures the complexity of all of the spaces through the ship. We can guess by looking at the drawing what some of the key spaces are whilst some of the ancillary spaces are less obvoius and arguably less important. We can also gauge the thickness of the structural hull below and close to the waterline versus the structural depth of the cantilevered spaces above. Whilst we continue on our journey with BlockSTUDIO to promote CGI and animations as current tools to realistically view your project, sometimes we just need a good old fashioned sectional drawing. #architecture #cgi #blocklife #construction

Studying new designs has never been easier and more intuitive. Starting from a picture with scattered props, we were able to get a clean layout and then sketch (literally) different ideas directly on the photo. No 3D work was involved, no assets were bought and, with a few hours of effort, we generated at least 3 viable ideas and two variations of the chosen one. Of course, to make it happen in real life, this will have to be paired with technical drawings but it is a great start. And could you tell the solutions were not real pictures? 🌟 Excited to share my latest project from university: Inhabitable Walls 🌟 I've been working on exploring digital and analogue techniques of production, focusing on creating "Inhabitable Walls" in a landscape setting. This project has been a journey of creativity and technical exploration, guided by the principles outlined by Simon Unwin in "An Architecture Notebook: Wall." Key Highlights: 🎨 Integrating 3D modelling in Rhino, diagramming in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop 🏛️ Physical model making using various fabrication techniques 🌿 Incorporating parametric procedures to depict ideas, form, structure, site, plants, and people 📐 Developing design options through conceptual model making 🖥️ Presenting a portfolio that reflects my design process and proposal I invite you to check out my portfolio detailing the journey from precedent analysis to detailed elevations. Your 3D plants look dull and dead? They might just be missing their 'soul'. Greenery should breathe life into your renders. But does it?   If something feels off, here's a tip:   Plants are more than color and shape. They should interact with light. When sunlight hits a leaf, it doesn't stop. It shines through. This effect is called translucency.   Without it, vegetation looks dull, lifeless. So, how to achieve it in your renders?   First things first, translucency is a property of the material shader. Check how to activate it in your engine and see it come alive.   Also, lighting matters. For translucency to show, light must pass through leaves at the right angle. Best effects? When the sun is low or directly in front of the scene. If it's behind your camera, you’ll miss this magic.   This tweak is subtle but powerful.
