From expat to immigrant entrepreneur in Germany. I talk about my learnings and thoughts. Currently building Simple Germany
Which city is the best to live in Germany? I always answer: Düsseldorf. I’m biased, I know. Here are 5 reasons why I love living in one of Germany’s best-kept secrets: 🪴 Not too big - not too small: Unlike other cities (cough Berlin), you don’t need to commute hours to go from A to B. It has a ‘Dorf’ (village) feeling to it sometimes. 🙂 Friendly people: Legend says the friendliest Germans can be found in NRW, especially in Cologne & Düsseldorf. I can confirm that I’ve had tons of very pleasant experiences here. 📍Location: It is a stone-throw away from discovering other countries - Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, Belgium. 🛫 Airport: The international airport is only 20 minutes away from the city center! 🍣 Japanese food & culture: With the second largest Japanese community in Europe, you can always find amazing events and food in the city. 🎡 Rhine Culture (bonus): with the Kirmes, Schützenfest, and Carnival - there are lots of opportunities to get to know Germans and their traditions. I ended up here by serendipity. I don’t think there is a “best city to live in Germany”. You land where the opportunities take you and learn to make the best out of it.

Our team recently completed an incredible journey across Sweden, visiting key cities like Stockholm, Karlstad, Gothenburg, and Malmö. 🇸🇪 It wasn’t just about the kilometers traveled—2210 km to be exact—but about the relationships built and the valuable insights gained from 53 face-to-face meetings. 🤝 A few key takeaways: 🔷 Swedish companies thrive within interconnected ecosystems and are passionate about maintaining entrepreneurial spirit. 🔷Traditional methods can sometimes outperform new trends in sales and visibility. 🔷Nothing beats the power of in-person connections to grow visibility and foster long-term relationships. From 6 camping areas and 27 Uber trips, to sharing 12 kg of chocolate and gifting 150 boxes, it was an unforgettable journey that reminded us of the importance of flexibility, teamwork, and the value of personal connections in business.👐 We’re excited to put these lessons into action and continue building strong partnerships in Sweden and beyond!💜 #TourdeSweden #WorkWonders Mikko Virtanen Jussi Tenho Jan Eriksson

It was an incredible "European Business Tour" filled with productivity and exploration! 🌍 Finland, with its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, stole a piece of my heart. From Helsinki's bustling streets to the tranquility of Lapland, every moment was a testament to Finland's unique charm. But what truly stood out was the warmth of Finnish hospitality. The people of Finland welcomed us with open arms, embracing guests from around the world with genuine kindness and generosity. Whether enjoying local delicacies or immersing myself in Finnish traditions, every encounter left an indelible mark. These experiences reaffirm the importance of fostering global connections built on mutual respect and understanding. Kiitos, Finland, for an unforgettable journey! Visited Germany's vibrant cities and serene countryside and every experience reflects the country's rich culture and history. Yet, what truly captivated me was the warmth of cosy taverns to bustling marketplaces, the people of Germany welcomed us with open hearts, fostering connections that transcend borders and languages. Amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Switzerland, where majestic mountains meet picturesque lakes, every moment feels like a postcard coming to life. However, it was the genuine warmth of Swiss hospitality that left the most lasting impression. From the streets of Paris to the picturesque countryside of Provence, France's allure is undeniable. Whether dining in quaint bistros or wandering through historic landmarks, every interaction was infused with sheer joy. Indeed, the business meetings were a resounding success. Key decisions were made, agreements reached, and innovative ideas exchanged. The positive energy and synergy between us were palpable, leaving everyone involved inspired and motivated to continue driving our ventures forward. #EuropeanBusinessTour #GlobalConnections #Finland #Germany #Switzerland #France #Paris #Helsinki #Frankfurt

Have you ever been confused by Sweden and Switzerland? Apparently, there are plenty of folks out there who think Sweden was Switzerland. Or rather, they mix up Swedish attractions with Swiss attractions. So much so that the Swedish Tourist Board came out last year with an excellent campaign to "distinguish" Sweden from Switzerland. I chanced upon this video and I just find it super creative and funny! It is really an excellent way to promote Sweden. And when I think further into it, I ask myself why are there not so many such funny commercials in Asia? Surely, I can't imagine Singapore Tourism Board coming up with such a commercial. It would have been taken down in a matter of days. So, are Asians too serious? Are Asian not creative? Or do Asian tend to take things too seriously? When was the last time you wanted to do some funny and creative and then you gave up on the idea worrying about the consequences? Would you think your idea would have been better received if you were not in Asia, say if you were in Europe or the US? Please leave your comments below. SN: by the way, Joe Biden confused Switzerland with Sweden at a press conference on Sweden's accession to NATO in 2022. Hmmm... ya... Joe Biden. #sweden #switzerland #creative #business #management #ceoinsights
