#Vancouver council to consider four rental projects totalling 1,186 homes Biggest rezoning proposal is adjacent to Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station. The four rezoning proposals: 🕹️The Vanness Avenue project across from the SkyTrain station is the biggest, with 679 units proposed to be built in towers of 30 and 33 storeys. Ten per cent of the homes would be rented at below-market rates. 🌅The proposal for 1055 Harwood St. is for a 32-storey tower containing 217 market rental and 52 below-market rental units. 🎉The project at Main Street and 5th Avenue that if approved Mount Pleasant would be home to the city’s tallest “hybrid-timber” residential building. 🌠 The proposal for 1890 Southwest Marine Dr. is for a “stacked townhouse form” of development that will provide 28 secured market rental units. The Well is missing a crucial element: A pedestrian bridge to City Place. A bridge could have completed a loop, linking it to the neighbourhood just south of it. City Place houses almost 18,000(!) people, and is locked behind the railways, Spadina and Bathurst, only connected northward via a pedestrian bridge at Portland. On the equivalent stretch on Queen Street - between Spadina and Portland there are 4 small streets connecting North. I echo Alex Bozikovic's piece from last week, this is, by no doubt, one of the most important mixed-use complexes in our downtown. But - what a missed opportunity to not include a connection right to the heart of The Well! (The bridge might have been a more cost-effective choice than the canopy or could have paid for itself through increased foot traffic).
