MICHIEL VAN DRIESSCHE AT URBAN FUTURE 2024 - Each year, Urban Future. unites thousands of CityChangers worldwide to exchange transformative ideas and learn from each other's experiences. In 2024, this event will be held in Rotterdam from June 5th to 7th. The program will feature five tracks: Climate Adaptation, Sustainable City Building, Social Transformation, Personal Growth & Leadership, and CityChanger Skills. Our partner Michiel Van Driessche will speak at the Climate Adaptation track on June 6, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:30 at Dock 1A (Rotterdam Ahoy). He will join the session "Making Climate Adaptation in Cities Really Work," moderated by Philipp Bouteiller, PhD, CEO at Artprojekt | Germany. Also participating are Lykke Leonardsen from the City of Copenhagen, Ala Hussin, Managing Director of Lapinus, and Dirk van Peijpe, Director of DE URBANISTEN BV. They'll delve into urban stormwater management, shifting mindsets, and overcoming structural barriers. Attendees will learn strategies to engage stakeholders and communities in addressing water excess and scarcity challenges. Michiel will lead an examination of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) with the audience, crucial for shaping sustainable and resilient urban futures, as seen in the development plan for Almere. We are honored to have Michiel van Driessche as our representative speaker at Urban Future. His presence reflects our dedication to driving urban sustainability worldwide. Let's delve into the transformative concept of the 15-Minute City, which redefines urban living by envisioning neighborhoods as self-sustaining centers where all necessary amenities are within a 15-minute walk or bike ride. This approach emphasizes decentralization of urban functions, promotion of mixed-use spaces, and prioritization of human-scale design principles. Aligning with the goals of the Paris Agreement, the 15-Minute City concept champions sustainable urban development. By diminishing reliance on automobiles and enhancing walkability, it directly addresses carbon emissions, enhances air quality, and mitigates the impacts of climate change.
