Looking for ways to gauge the walkability or bikeability of your community? Close.city, a new, interactive travel time mapping tool from Henry Spatial Analysis, provides an easy way to display multi-modal transportation access to key destinations, such as libraries, grocery stores, schools, and more. The screen shot below shows bicycle travel times to parks and playgrounds for the York (PA) metro area. Businesses within the 15-minute travel time have a great chance of picking up patronage as people visit parks, trails and playgrounds. The ones outside of it--not so much. Imagine using this data at your next public meeting, in your next grant application, or when deciding how and where to make investments in transportation infrastructure, recreational amenities, or businesses. Check out the data on your community, county or region at: https://lnkd.in/e5JZm8SH

💥 Allowing cyclists to cross red lights dangerous? A French study finds it improves traffic flow without compromising safety. Several European cities have been experimenting with traffic signals that permit cyclists to cross red lights under specific conditions, aiming to make intersections safer and more efficient for them. 🚦 A study conducted in Lyon by CEREMA assessed the effectiveness of this measure and its impact on road safety, yielding the following insights: 💡 User detection and understanding of the signage was relatively low, highlighting the need to improve public awareness of these traffic signs. 💡 The signals formalise behaviour where cyclists were already crossing red lights. 💡 No significant changes in safety were observed, nor was there an increase in accidents. ➡ What's next? Including a panel indicating the traffic light exemption for cyclists in the international Convention on Road Signs and Signals would help standardise this approach across countries and improve the signals' recognisability.
