Last week I visited EDF’s Flamanville 3 Nuclear Power station in France. The project is now progressing well: it is a very impressive site, the reactor is already fuelled and it is planned to start operations soon. Good luck EDF!
During a visit to Urenco, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s Rafael Mariano Grossi told our CEO about a "return to realism" for nuclear, where it can play a big part in producing sustainable energy for the future. Mr Grossi spoke about the change in attitudes towards #nuclear as it came back on the world stage at events like the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP). Watch more here...

Exciting #nuclearenergy development from Sweden! A recent government study has proposed the provision of state aid for companies investing in new #nuclearpower. The law to regulate access to support is proposed to come into power in May 2025. Recently Sweden has been turning its attention to #nuclearenergy with the government outlining a roadmap for the construction of new nuclear capabilities in November 2023. Additionally, this January, Sweden appointed a national nuclear power coordinator to support the government in monitoring and analyzing the progress of nuclear power expansion and identifying the need for supplementary measures. It has been almost 40 years since Sweden built its last nuclear reactor and the new funding model aims to finance a nuclear program of 4000-6000 MW, equivalent to about four large-scale reactors. This initiative is a significant and welcome step towards achieving #netzero and promoting #sustainability in the energy sector. Read more below: https://lnkd.in/egW48cDA

Today we welcomed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, together with guests from the three Troika governments of the UK, the Netherlands and Germany, and the United States of America at an event to mark the development of the Centre of Excellence for Safeguards and Non-Proliferation, at Urenco’s Capenhurst site in the UK. The Urenco testing and training facility, a first of its kind globally, is a collaboration between those mentioned above and sees the repurposing of a decommissioned plant brought back into active life for this unique safeguarding purpose. I am very proud to be able to contribute and collaborate with this international community to help grow expertise in nuclear safeguards by building this dedicated facility at our UK site. We at Urenco will continue to use our expertise and technologies to support non-proliferation and the safeguarding of civil nuclear operations. #nuclearenergy #safeguarding #nonproliferation #innovation

Urenco's Young Person's Network (YPN) joined forces with their counterparts at Rolls-Royce SMR this week, Bringing Early Talent Alive (BETA). The webinar saw both young persons' groups learning about each company's respective projects in the nuclear industry, and provided a chance for networking. Alongside RR, we're committed to nurturing the talent needed to achieve up to 24GW of nuclear-generated electricity by 2050 in the UK. #netzeronuclear #energysecurity
Great to host our partners ZEH and PZEM with whom we've agreed a low-carbon supply of electricity to power our #Netherlands site in #Almelo starting in 2027. The electricity will come from the country's only nuclear plant in Borssele and enables us to meet our scope 2 near-term emissions target at the site in 2030! #netzero #sustainability
