Join the conversation to redefine ‘well made’ for the 21st century Pearson Lloyd is curating a new exhibition at Yorkton Workshops during London Design Festival 2024, which will bring together a diverse array of people and practices to explore ‘well made’ through new forms of production and materiality that respond to the demands of a more ecological future. We are seeking contributions to this dialogue, highlighting the intersection of creativity, sustainability, and quality. The act of making has driven human and cultural evolution for millennia, elevating our existence and surroundings through ingenuity and innovation. However, in recent history, this creative process has been monetised, industrialised and globalised, resulting in rapid social, economic and environmental change. In our collective effort to respond to these challenges, there is a need to redefine our cultural understanding of what it means to be ‘well made.’ Please submit your contribution via this link before July 15th 2024. https://lnkd.in/dWxAEKEZ

I was struck by this quote from Javier Sainz de los Terreros of the Museo Nacional del Prado when speaking about museum patrons at the NEXTIN Summit in Madrid: “They are now empowered”, he said. “They want to take part in decision making and effect change. Museums have now become listeners.” This sums up the shift as we move from a content-centric world to a community-centric world. It's no long just about just creating content for audiences to passively consume. It's now about creating spaces where fans can come together, connect with each other, and actively shape the experience. Of course, creating this space is a lot easier if you already have a museum. But just providing a space isn't enough. You have to design it to facilitate connections, not just for consumption. TODAY @ CREATIVE FUTURE Festival Beyond Concrete: Building a Path for the Future of Atlanta’s Westside Tabea Fahr, Taylor Coles, Ingeborg M. Rocker, PhD. and Rusty Smith explore the challenges and opportunities of redeveloping Atlanta’s Westside. One of Atlanta’s most salient and popular planning gems, the Atlanta Beltline, was conceived within an academic context and enthusiastically adopted by the city government. It is a great piece of planning that has energized and connected neighborhoods across the city, but has also catalyzed the displacement of legacy residents within those neighborhoods. Later phases of The Beltline trail system offer an opportunity for a second chance. What can we from academia, city government, and the development world do to achieve better outcomes on the Westside which include historic Vine City and English Avenue? 3 Reasons to Attend: — Learn strategies for creating inclusive, resilient urban spaces. — Discover how urban design can balance community needs with progress. — Get insights into one of Atlanta’s most significant redevelopment projects. Date: Saturday, September 28, 2024 Time: 9:00 AM — 5:00 PM Location: Fourth Ward Offices (Tower 2), 505 N Angier Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30308 Parking: On-site 1,800-space parking deck Tickets: $75 Secure your spot today. https://lnkd.in/ejxTW7xY Activate to view larger image,

Urban trees are powerful assets in cities: 1. Heat Reduction: Trees can lower urban temperatures by 20-45°F, mitigating heat islands (Environmental Pollution, 2019). 2. Air Quality: They remove pollutants like ozone and particulate matter, improving public health (Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, 2020). 3. Mental Health: Access to green spaces can reduce stress and improve mood (Scientific Reports, 2018). Urban trees are essential for a healthier, cooler, and more vibrant city environment.

Day 6 #ArtIntensiveBerlinDiary2024 (part 1) Today, we immersed ourselves in one of the most defining aspects of Berlin's contemporary cultural identity: its street art. Often regarded as the street art capital of the world, Berlin is a living canvas, with graffiti and murals that express a diverse range of social, political, and artistic messages. Our journey began in the vibrant district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, a neighborhood that serves as an open-air gallery for some of the city's most iconic works of urban art. As we explored the streets on foot, we encountered murals that sparked conversations about the intersections of art, activism, and community. Our guide @lujancordaro provided insightful context on the artists behind these works—their influences, techniques, and the socio-political narratives that shape their creations. The juxtaposition of historic buildings with contemporary graffiti reminded us how Berlin's past and present constantly interact, transforming public spaces into dynamic sites of expression. After absorbing the energy of the city’s artistic pulse, we took a moment to pause at a local café, where we participated in a playful yet thoughtful collective sketching session, inspired by the techniques of the Dadaists. This collaborative exercise, much like street art itself, emphasized spontaneity and the power of collective creativity. The experience was open to all skill levels, creating an inclusive space where creativity flowed freely.offers This day was a reminder of Berlin’s unique role as a hub of artistic innovation and community-driven art forms. Whether you’re an art student, a professional, or simply someone with a curiosity for the visual language of cities, today offers valuable insights into the creative forces that shape Berlin’s urban landscape. #ArtIntensiveBerlin #StreetArtInFocus #GraffitiAndCulture #BerlinUrbanArt #PublicSpacesAsCanvas #CreativeResearch #DadaistInspiration #FriedrichshainKreuzberg #CulturalExploration #OctoberInBerlin #ArtResidency #UrbanNarratives
