Last night our physicians and staff had the honor of holding a dinner at the Hope Lodge for their staff and current patients! We appreciate all that the Hope Lodge does for our patients undergoing treatment. Since all patients staying there live more than 40 miles from Birmingham, the Hope Lodge supplies them with a room, transportation to treatment, and meals during their stay!

Palliative care can be a scary term to a patient. This publication outlines it nicely in stating that "Palliative care is often confused with hospice care. Palliative care is appropriate at any point in a serious illness and can/should be provided at the same time as and in addition to life-prolonging treatment." It's important for providers to explain that palliative care is not only hospice care but care to improve QOL. Learning that palliative care isn't hospice care has been an education for me and something that patients and providers need to talk about. https://lnkd.in/eXddA5g7

Did you know that approximately 300 people are seen in the Primrose Breast Care Centre, University Hospitals Plymouth every week, many different clinics are running alongside each other, these include: • A one-stop appointment (GP referral). • Family history clinic. • Surveillance screening appointments. • Routine & recall mammogram appointments • Ultrasound appointments • Nurse-led drop-in clinics • Follow-up results clinics • Follow-up appointments from surgery On average seven one-stop clinics are held per week where an estimated 16 people attend. A one-stop clinical appointment is when a person has been referred by their GP due to a lump, bump, lesion, or something that just doesn’t look or feel right on the breasts or the areas around them. These appointments are designed to make a difficult time slightly easier by offering a variety of different tests to determine what the problem is. Often patients are asked to wear a specific gown when they attend the Primrose Centre, these garments are cleverly designed to help access the breasts easier and allow a person to feel more dignified during their appointment. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month we are inviting you to donate just £12 to help fund these all-important patient gowns. Director of Membership at National Organization for Rare Disorders, expertise in nonprofit leadership
During National Family Caregivers Month, we recognize the critical role family caregivers play in supporting individuals with cholangiocarcinoma. Family caregivers help with the decision-making process and are often by their loved one’s side every step of the way to help advocate for them and ensure they are receiving the best care. It can be overwhelming to navigate all the information and options available, making caregivers an essential part of their loved one’s care team. Learn more about the patient and caregiver experience through Pedro and Ángela, a husband-and-wife team who understand the challenges and triumphs that come with managing a loved one’s #cholangiocarcinoma diagnosis: https://lnkd.in/eKvWU8Eq.

POSTCOVID-19 WAR era, (Prolongation of the isolated heart storage time up to >48 hrs) After 100 years still cardiovascular diseases are number one killer between all diseases. Heart failure is one of phenomenal processes which still have no standard definition and transplantation of Heart between donors and patients because of different factors i.e. limited donors, very short storage time (possibilities concerning time and crossmatching) made heart transplantation still mission almost impossible to get 100% results. I studied heart failure and wrote a book over the effects of insulin during heart failure". 2.Moreover, I studied calcium paradox during heart transplantation and storage medium which protects heart as cardioplegic solution. 3.Furthermore, I did animal studies and brought animal hearts into a hibernated state to investigate different aspects of storage Sciences (1999-2002). 4. After prolongation of shelf life of blood platelets up to 18 days (2002-2006) I invented novel model system to prolong isolated hearts for more than 48 hrs. This model system is still waiting for funding budget for 4 years studies, under ex-vivo and in-vivo. We are looking for collaboration to prolong even isolated hearts for more than 5 days, which will prepare a condition to crossmatch, increase exchange of isolated hearts between countries and continents. If my suggestion tickles your interests, please don't hesitate and send me email for further discussion and collaborations (BBAdvies and Research internal projects 2010-2024 self-funded storage science projects, bbadlou@casema.nl)
Heart transplantation stands as a beacon of hope for individuals facing end-stage heart failure. This intricate surgical procedure involves replacing a failing heart with a healthy donor heart, offering a renewed lease on life to recipients. Through advancements in medical science and organ donation, countless lives have been saved, and quality of life restored. Each successful transplantation is a testament to the collaborative efforts of skilled surgeons, healthcare professionals, and the generosity of donors and the families. Beyond the operating room, it signifies a profound journey of resilience, compassion, and the remarkable capacity of humanity to extend the gift of life to others. #HeartTransplant #OrganDonation #Hope #HealthcareHeroes

Proven Mentor, Trainer and Leader | Helping Companies Translate Their Business and Customer Service Goals into Reality
Did you know: Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from generous donors, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most — saving kids regardless of their financial situation. Every dollar makes a difference. $5 Could help provide 167 pediatric bandages for children during hospital visits. $10 Could help provide 48 infant diapers to babies undergoing treatment. $25 Help provide a St. Jude family with meals for one day in the Kay Kafe, the St. Jude cafeteria. $57 Could help provide 14 thermometers for doctors to use at patients appointments. $100 Could help to provide one red wagon. $250 Could help to provide 10 days of meals for one parent or family member. $500 Could help to provide 42 platelet count tests. During chemotherapy, the platelet count of patients can drop to dangerously low levels so platelet transfusions are essential for treatment. $606 Could help cover the cost of two days of oxygen for a St. Jude patient. During treatment, St. Jude patients may need oxygen to help their bodies function properly and aid in healing. $1,722 Could help cover 1 day of chemotherapy administered intravenously to leukemia or solid tumor patients. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall survival rate for childhood cancers from 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to more than 80 percent today. https://lnkd.in/g-pumaDC #stjude #greystarcentralsouth #elev8 Natalie Cunningham Chelsie Russ Caitlyn Stowe
