As we celebrate space week, it is important we also understand where Asia Pacifc nations are in terms of space capacities. Some facts: Three nations with independent launch capabilities. Three nations that have landed on other celestial bodies., including an asteroid! Several nations with advanced space law. and ambitious space programs. US Space Force to perform world’s first military exercise in orbit - The US Space Force on April 11 announced that it is partnering with private space companies Rocket Lab and True Anomaly for a military on-orbit demonstration. - The Victus Haze Tactically Responsive Space (TacRS) mission will demonstrate how the military would counter “on-orbit aggression.” It is a first-of-its-kind mission that reflects ongoing military escalation in the space domain. - https://lnkd.in/en_67P79

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 The prospect of deploying weapons in space is highly concerning for several reasons: • Increased risk of war between nations who perceive threats from each other's space weapons. • Potential to destroy critical satellites that provide GPS, communication, weather monitoring and other vital services we rely on. • Could spark a new arms race as nations compete to militarize space, wasting resources better spent elsewhere. • May restrict peaceful space exploration and scientific research due to military tensions. • Turning space into a war zone threatens humanity's ability to jointly explore the cosmos for our benefit. Rather than allow the militarization of space to escalate conflicts and undermine our shared interests, we must pursue diplomacy to keep space a peaceful domain for all nations.
