Ever noticed the huge similarities there are between sport and sales? Typically ex athletes often make phenomenal sales people, infact as recruiter focused on GTM, it’s often a part of a CV I find particular ‘green flags’ about. Why? To play sport at a mid/high level, particularly as a Captain is no easy task. Just like sales, sportspeople need incredible resilience, consistent performance to drive results, great leadership qualities & of course the ability to work in a team. Having the dedication to continue to grow and learn in sports mirrors what’s needed to reach the highest level in sales. What other professions have transferable skills into sales? #sales #GTM #Recruitment

Senior Director | Brand Marketing & Strategy | Creating innovative experiences that connect deeply w/ customers | Former D1 Athlete | Jaxson's Dad

The Packers CEO, Mark Murphy, rejected the applicant - but did so in a brilliant way: - Wrote a handwritten rejection note - Recommended the fan apply to the Chicago Bears' open DC position Clever. Simple. Creative. Authentic. Personal. That is marketing 101. This is how you strengthen brand loyalty. Build trust with your fans. And stick it to your competition. This is winning. And as a Bears fan, there's nothing more demoralizing than seeing the Packers win - even in the offseason. #NFL #sports #sportsmarketing #creativemarketing #marketing #Packers #Bears #SuperBowl #football #creativity #leadership

Recent sports analogy I stumbled upon when it comes to interviewing - Theres a real difference between a lateral move and an upwards promotion. Lateral moves are more like the NFL draft : companies are looking for a body of work and a track record of success (i.e. Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning) -- win rates, big accomplishments, process Upward moves are more like the NBA draft : companies are looking for character and traits (i.e. Giannis, Anthony Edwards) -- coachability, mentality, innate skills Maybe this is a miss but I'll always stretch for a good sports metaphor P.S. Traits are always a factor, just harder to measure (i.e. Josh Allen)

Public Relations Specialist | Helping health-tech & climate tech startups create and implement a PR strategy that shares their innovative solution with international audiences to increase awareness and market share
It's been a while since I posted about lessons from football, so here we go. In both Public Relations (PR) and football, teamwork is the cornerstone of success. Just like in the beautiful game, every member of a PR team plays a crucial role in achieving goals and securing victories. Here's how the two intersect: In strategy and coordination, in the same way that a football team strategizes to score goals, PR professionals craft plans to achieve objectives. Coordination is key – every player needs to understand their role and execute it flawlessly to win. Otherwise, we end up with more confusion than a VAR decision! Effective communication on the field also mirrors the seamless collaboration needed in PR. From passing the ball to passing information, clarity and teamwork are essential for progress. Our messages need to be as clear as a Pep halftime pep talk! In adaptability and flexibility, like football, PR is dynamic. Teams must adapt to changing scenarios, whether it's a sudden media crisis or an opponent's unexpected tactics. Flexibility and quick thinking are paramount. Leadership and support are crucial. Football teams rely on captains to lead and support their teammates, and PR teams need strong leadership to guide them through challenges and inspire confidence. Celebration of diversity is essential. Football teams thrive on diversity – players from different backgrounds bring their own unique skills to the field. Similarly, diverse perspectives in PR foster creativity and innovation. In both fields, success is not achieved alone. It takes a cohesive team working together towards a common goal. Whether on the pitch or in the office, collaboration makes the dream work. ⚽📣 #Teamwork #PR #Soccer #Collaboration #Success 🌟

I do love a good football-business analogy. And FC Bayern München's current search for a head coach just sits so close to my daily work in Executive Search that I couldn't resist. Why? Because it has the worst search-and-selection process I have ever come across: ⚽ Only one candidate is interviewed at any one time. ⚽ There is a plethora of decision makers across C-suite and board, all with different preferences. ⚽ Because of this, there are far too many stakeholders with a veto on any candidate. ⚽ Otherwise confidential discussions and thoughts are openly presented to the national media by at least one of the above stakeholders. ⚽ This means that any candidate in discussions knows exactly how far down on the list of priorities they are. ⚽ All of this while time is ticking: the new business cycle (ie. the new season) starts in July and the strategy for it has not been prepared at all yet. Can you top this? What's the worst search & hiring process you've come across? #hiring #executivesearch #recruitment #football #miasannimmamia

THIS IS NOT ABOUT SPORTS.™ This historic run is Andy Reid's second tour of duty as a head coach in the National Football League. He is hosting a masterclass on how to get out of the way. Let's go to the tape. 🎥 **** "He Brings Out The Best Of Me Because He Lets Me Be Me. I Think That's Important Is He Doesn't Try To Make Me Anyone Else." (:18) I find that most managers can't handle elite players. Why? There's a tendency to lean towards one of two extremes: Pedaler or Meddler. 🚲 The Pedaler A) The Pedaler is a manager who does infrequent drive-bys and occasional check-ins and assumes the elite talent will make do with what they have. Rarely will Pedalers allocate resources to elite players because the assumption is that they will overcome the deficit of support, and still perform at a high level. 🚁 The Meddler B) The Meddler, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. This manager is a walking distraction. 🙈 We've all been around these people. 📥 They send too many emails. 👩🏻💻 They call too many meetings. 🛎️ They Slack too damn much. If you have a rare talent on your team, support them with: 1) resources, 2) autonomy, and 3) accountability. And remember, THEY HAVE the leverage. If you pedal or meddle, they'll be gone before the quarter's over. Stay In The Deep End. #ThisIsNotAboutSports #LinkedInSports

Let your top talent shine!!! Everyone who considers themself a top notch professional wants to be given the opportunity to show what they can do. They want to grab spotlight opportunities, be on the big stage and show they can deliver. As Daron K. Roberts, J.D. alludes to, some “Pedaler” and “Meddler” managers can get in the way. I find that when I give my best team members opportunities to grow, whether complete success or failures (or usually a mix somewhere in between), they get the opportunity to LEARN! What gives me the confidence to let them shine? STRONG COMMUNICATION. I often tell my team: “Nobody knows what is required of you in your role better than you. However, as much as I want you to work autonomously, I have to know what’s going on.” The people I trust the most to tackle the toughest challenges are those that can articulate what they need to be successful. My role is to facilitate what needs to happen so they can be successful. Whether it is coaching or providing some advice (these being entirely different things), identification of priorities or best practices, or even just listening to them vent so they can get it out of their system and refocus on the work. I believe that great managers do what needs to be done to help the individual team members operate at a high level. By helping the individual shine, the entire team can function more efficiently, be resilient to challenges faced, and overcome adversity. #manager #topperformers #coachingforsuccess #growthmindset
