Ninety years ago this month, the hunt for John Dillinger came to an end thanks to some of the 130,687 people who identified themselves as police officers during the 1930 Census. In 2018, the number of police officers in the U.S. was 761,830. Learn more about Dillinger and our nation’s #FirstResponders using #CensusData: https://lnkd.in/g-DjgMN #CensusHistory

United States: Not just “a few bad apples”: U.S. police kill civilians at much higher rates than other countries. Police violence is a systemic problem in the U.S., not simply incidental, and it happens on a scale far greater than other wealthy nations. There is no question that the number of police killings of civilians in the U.S. – who are disproportionately Black and other people of color – are the result of policies and practices that enable and even encourage police violence. Compared to police in other wealthy democracies, American police kill civilians at incredibly high rates.

National Police campaigns this week have used a narrative that 99% of young people under the age of 29 do not carry knives. LET'S BREAK THIS DOWN: 2021 Census data shows that: 29.1% of all people in England and Wales (17.3 million) were under 25 years old. This means that in excess of 173,000 young people carry knives. Official government data shows a steady increase in knife crime since COVID measures, with 50,500 knife incidents nationally in the year ending March 2023 (an average of 138 incidents per day). Knife crime continues to escalate and there is evidence to suggest that the carrying of knives by young people is even worse than this data indicates. Unfortunately, more than ever, action, awareness and interventions around knife crime are necessary. Street Whyze Project CIC continues to provide targeted sessions to young people across East Staffordshire... #knifecrime #SaferCommunities Kate Kniveton MP East Staffordshire Borough Council Staffordshire Commissioner Staffordshire County Council Staffordshire Police SCVYS Support Staffordshire

Do you live in New York City? Have you finally had enough? According to data from the United States Census Bureau, the net domestic migration outflow from New York City was 342,449 people between 2018 and 2020. This means that more people moved out of the city than moved in during this period. Also according to the U.S. Census Bureau, New York City experienced a net domestic migration outflow of 342,449 people in 2021. THERE IS LIFE AFTER NEW YORK CITY. As someone who grew up five mile from Manhattan and then lived in the once-great state of California for thirty years, I can certainly empathize with your attachment with where you live and your disenchantment with how they've become. The damage done will take at least a generation to correct, and that is assuming that voters wake up and "vote the bums out." 2.5 years ago I and my wife had enough and we move to central Texas, the San Antonio suburbs to be precise. What we found is very diverse and tolerant cultures, warm and friendly people, a lower cost-of-living, a better educational system, and a lack of psychotic, woke thinking/beliefs/behaviors. If you've had enough and want to create a better life for you and your family, as a Realtor I'd be honored to help. https://lnkd.in/g8cC3Q7a #NYC #NewYorkCity #NewYork #MoveToTexas #SanAntonio #Boerne #TexasHillCountry #RealEstate #Realtor #Crime #Eduction

As we honor National Crime Victims Rights Week and our community mourns the senseless murder of Sade Robinson, we must continue to sound the alarm about the disproportionate rate at which Black women and girls go missing in this country. -Approximately 36% of missing women and girls are Black, despite making up about 7% of the U.S. population, according to census data. -The homicide rate for Black women and girls in Wisconsin doubled in 2020 making it the state with the highest homicide rate for Black women and girls. -Nearly 40% of missing children in America are Black, while just 13% of U.S. population is Black. #JusticeForSade

NBC7 solicited my input on traffic stops and racial bias. I am always thankful when the media provides the opportunity for context in response to allegations of racial bias. All too often, the reporting is one-sided and skewed. I contend that the current R.I.P.A. data collection process is flawed and does not take enough ancillary reasonable cause information into account. As I stated to this reporter, the percentages of racial group populations in comparison to the traffic stop frequencies will never align due to the different variables involved in each encounter. However, my sense is that the media and the R.I.P.A. Board will continue to perpetuate the racism in policing narrative going forward and use this data to lobby for more restrictive laws and policies for traffic/pedestrian stops. I did not offer an opinion about the particular traffic stop they highlighted in this story. As I told the reporter, my sense is there is more to the situation beyond the account provided by the aggrieved violator. The optics are not good, but all the facts must be evaluated before passing judgement about the decisions made by the officers. https://lnkd.in/gbg5fnxe
