The #HIPAA #reproductivehealth #Privacy final rule made an edit to permissible disclosures unrelated to repro health that entities might have missed: HIPAA covered entities were previously permitted to disclose PHI in response to "administrative requests..... authorized under law" so long as the request met some conditions on relevance and scope. The final rule inserted "for which response is required by law" after "administrative requests." IN OTHER WORDS, unless the #hospital receives a subpoena, warrant, or something with equal legal impact, it cannot provide PHI in response to administrative requests like those from departments of social services or child welfare, medical examiners, or law enforcement officers doing some pre-subpoena leg work. This is not just related to reproductive health information - this is all PHI. Administrative requests that do not legally require a response are no longer a permissible disclosure under 512. #healthinformationmanagement #PHI #healthinformationprivacy

It is personally frustrating to see the numbers keep rising. However, I do believe at least one element driving that factor is employee reporting more regularly now. As a career professional in this field and constant, one of the most effective tools an organization can employ is independent program assessment. As a former director of a law enforcement organization “operational gap blindness” is a very real thing. Our gaps become operationalized and if not causing a major issue at the time, they become a part of the normal workflow. Left unchecked they will become stumbling blocks to an organization’s success.

Begs the question(s): - How effective is Governor DeWine's approach of avoiding direct mention of public health while promoting initiatives that inherently contribute to public health? - What challenges does Governor DeWine face in advocating for public health initiatives within a traditionally conservative political landscape? - How do traditional conservative values align with the promotion of public health initiatives such as safe sleep for infants, early education, mental health care, etc.? - What is the public reception to Governor DeWine's approach of framing public health initiatives within the context of traditional conservative values? - What are the potential long-term impacts of Governor DeWine's approach on public health outcomes in Ohio? The challenge is upon the leaders of the hospitals and ward managers to support this call. First, implement comprehensive anti-harassment policies and ensure they are strictly enforced. Regular training on professional conduct and communication can help staff recognize and address inappropriate behavior. Establish clear reporting mechanisms for victims of harassment, ensuring confidentiality and protection from retaliation. Leadership must model and promote a culture of respect, holding all staff accountable for their behavior. Encouraging open dialogue and feedback through regular staff meetings and surveys can help identify issues early and foster a supportive environment. Report finds significant need to increase Cook County's mental health workforce | Cook County needs to double its mental health workforce to meet the demand for services expected in the coming years. [Health News Illinois] A report released Monday found the county needed 16,000 more behavioral health professionals to provide for the 420,000 residents who needed — but did not receive — care last year.  An estimated 30,763 behavioral health professionals worked in core, nursing and adjacent occupations in 2023. Roughly 40 percent of current behavioral health workers are expected to retire, leave Cook County or leave their occupation in the next five years. “By 2028, Cook County needs to attract, retain and/or upskill 30,000 workers to address the (behavioral health) worker shortage and replace professionals expected to leave the field over the next five years,” noted the report from Cook County Health and the Cook County Public Health Department.
