We all have something or someone to protect. Everyone plays a role in keeping our community safe, and if you see something, say something. Campaign empowers individuals to report suspicious activity to local authorities in order to prevent terrorism. If You See Something, Say Something is a national public awareness campaign. After the horrific attacks on September 11, 2001, the US Department of Homeland Security was created and soon after committed to this year round campaign, which stresses the importance of recognizing and reporting terrorism related suspicious activity to local authorities. The If You See Something, Say Something Campaign partners with all types of organizations to raise public awareness about this message. Join the effort in learn how to recognize signs of a potential threat. Suspicious activity is any observed behavior that may indicate someone is planning a terrorist attack or other terrorism related crime but remember, these factors are not suspicious. Disability, religion, race or ethnicity, gender or gender identity or sexual orientation, nationality or national origin. It is also not suspicious to speak with an accent or to be less than proficient in English. Here are a few examples of actual suspicious. Behavior, observation, and surveillance. This could be a person demonstrating unusual or prolonged interest in a facility, building, or other infrastructure beyond mere casual or professional interest. Eliciting information. Asking questions about an event or facility security operations at a level beyond mere curiosity could be a sign that someone is trying to learn how to bypass security measures or how to cause harm. Misrepresentation. This could be someone providing false information or misrepresenting their affiliation or identification as a means of concealing possible illegal activity. Potential terrorists could try this tactic to infiltrate events or facilities or misuse documents to conduct unlawful activity. A breach or attempted intrusion. This is an unauthorized person impersonating authorized personnel, such as pretending to be a law enforcement officer or janitor, in order to enter a restricted area to conduct illegal actions. Weapons collection and storage. If you discover someone stockpiling an unusual and unexplainable amount of chemicals, explosive materials, weapons or other destructive material in a manner that would arouse suspicion of terrorism, this may warrant a call to law enforcement. It's also important to remember that these behaviors alone are not inherently criminal and may be constitutionally protected. So it's important to share what you've noticed with local law enforcement who are trained to make these distinctions. They will review the information provided and determine the best course of action. You can learn about additional signs of suspicious activity by visiting DHS Gov slash C, say. If you see activity that exhibits the signs we've just reviewed, it's important to report it to local law enforcement. If there is an immediate emergency, please call 911. You can find your local tip line on dhs.gov/csec or by scanning this code. Each state's US territory and many cities have their own local authority where these reports of suspicious activity are received, analyzed and shared with trained law enforcement officials. When reporting suspicious activity, think about the 5W's. Who give a description of the person or persons. What? Explain exactly what you saw. What was the person doing? Did they have any items with them? When at what time and date did you see the suspicious activity occur? Where? Provide the location where you witness the activity. Why? Explain why the behavior seems suspicious. You play an important role in protecting your community. Signs of terrorism related suspicious activity could appear anywhere in our daily routine. You never know, one tip could make a difference. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the If You See Something, Say Something campaign and empower others to help identify and report suspicious activity. Supporting Anti-Spiking Week: 16-22 September At The Portmarnock Group, we are proud to stand with the Security Industry Authority during Anti-Spiking Week. Spiking, where someone is unknowingly given drugs or alcohol without their consent, is a dangerous crime that threatens public safety, especially in venues like bars and clubs. As SIA licence holders, our team is committed year round to preventing and tackling spiking incidents. To achieve this, we: ✔️ Conduct regular patrols to monitor for suspicious behaviour and signs of spiking. ✔️ Train our staff to recognise key signs of spiking, such as confusion, dizziness, sudden drowsiness, or loss of coordination, while remaining vigilant in identifying vulnerable individuals who may need help. ✔️ Respond immediately to any signs of spiking, with victim safety as our top priority. ✔️ Work closely with local police to gather evidence and secure witness statements when incidents occur. Recognising the signs of spiking early is crucial in preventing harm and ensuring public safety. By staying alert, we can intervene when necessary and protect those at risk. August 21st marks National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day™, a solemn occasion dedicated to honoring the memory of those who have fallen victim to illicit fentanyl poisoning. It serves as a poignant reminder of the profound devastation inflicted upon countless families and friends affected by this perilous drug. This day stands as a unified effort among fentanyl awareness organizations, impacted families, and individuals sharing their lived experiences to collectively warn and inform our youth, the public, and the unsuspecting. This nationwide initiative urges all Americans to unite in the cause. Federal, state, and local agencies are called to participate actively, contributing to the vital mission of saving lives through heightened prevention and awareness efforts. Hosting community events dedicated to National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day and disseminating resources on fentanyl and other hazardous substances can prove instrumental in safeguarding lives. The gravity of the situation cannot be overstated. Fentanyl represents the gravest drug threat our nation has ever faced, propagated by transnational criminals. Alarmingly, an American succumbs to a drug-related death every five minutes, with children under 14 bearing a disproportionate burden of fatalities from fentanyl poisoning. Exploiting social media platforms, distributors are making access to dangerous drugs alarmingly easy for our youth. Thus, comprehensive prevention education is imperative to stem the tide of this crisis. It is incumbent upon us all to be well-informed about the perils of illicit fentanyl. By collectively spreading awareness about its dangers, we can shield families from the anguish of fentanyl-related tragedies.
