You probably have seen this viral video of Chef #ChimamandaNgozi interviewed by a French journalist... Chimamanda gave that woman, and the rest of the world, a lesson long to be remembered. #Whiteprivileges is rampant. And since we are having this converstaion on #LINKEDIN, it is not enoughly addressed in the African workspace. It goes from the newly appointed Foreign staff (usually holding a managerial position) that is not fitted for the job or the context he/she will have to "manage" in but will still be protected by his/her organization when his/her faults are signaled by local coworkers and employees... To the "non-African" expert that will label an African expert "racist" because he/she argued that African comms professionals were not given enough attention by their communities. Our voices - and intellects - are constantly being questionned. And that also originates from our own lack of respect for our very OWN competences. I am known for speaking my mind which may seem unwise in this Social Media Era 😉 ! But I am an advocate for #authenticity and believe that digital spaces also deserve genuine conversations. Since my French-speaking community is still doubting its right to speak, I'd like to switch to my #English fellows from #Nigeria (and beyhond) where the need to stand unite, and structure local COMMS Industries has led to this great initiative that we should all contribute to: The Comms Avenue. Books, reports and studies from African comms experts addressing local issues and contexts exist. They just lack exposure. So, if you have a few African led publications that should be kept in our libraries, please comment this post and share the references. A round of applause for all #Africanauthors, publishers and editors that deserve more recognition and support from their communities.

"As we reflect on the recent observance of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development in May, its imperative to consider the profound impact of culture on business communication. In a country as diverse as South Africa, with its rich tapestry of languages and cultures, the importance of speaking to audiences in their own language cannot be overstated." Writes Amber Sambo, public relations and communications consultant at Decusatio Investor Relations and Communications.

April 1st marked two years since our family boarded a flight to live abroad in Qatar, and over a year in my role at Memac Ogilvy as Qatar’s Head of PR. Reflecting on this experience, I’ve realized that I’ve learned more lessons in two years abroad than a dozen staying within my comfort zone. Here are a few that stand out: - Stay Curious. Embracing curiosity is a cherished value at Memac Ogilvy, but it especially applies to living abroad. In Qatar, where diversity thrives, adopting a mindset of positive curiosity has enabled me to understand the "Why" behind cultural nuances and communicate better. - Some Truths Are Universal. While customs vary across cultures, certain values remain constant. Whether in Qatar or elsewhere, respect, trust, and friendliness serve as universal currencies that transcend boundaries and facilitate meaningful connections. - Clarity is Key. I’m constantly amazed by how many languages my colleagues speak. Sometimes 4 or 5! But managing all of that linguistic nuance means the more specific I can be in my questions and requests, the easier it is to ensure seamless collaboration. Most importantly, I've found that the old saying holds true: you get what you give. Bring a positive attitude to the table, and you're bound to see some pretty awesome results!
