At our #ClimateWeekNYC event, Michael Crinion, a dairy farmer from South Dakota and the Chair of U.S. Farmers & Ranchers in Action, highlighted how farmers and ranchers are embracing Natural Climate Solutions, and what needs to happen in both the private sector and among policy makers, to scale up implementation. Key takeaways: 🚜 Farmers need to be invited into sustainability conversations early to ensure the policies work on the ground, are financially viable, and thus sustainable in the long term. 🚜 Farmers know their land best. They must be empowered to adapt sustainability practices to their specific environments. “We’re always talking in silos,” Crinion said, “but it’s by working together that we can make a positive change to the environment. Land conservation is a cost-effective, high-impact solution to climate change. It can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve public health, among many other co-benefits.
