President Joe Biden and presumed Republican nominee Donald Trump went head-to-head Thursday night in the first general election debate of the 2024 contest – a crucial opportunity to shape the political narrative and broaden their appeal to undecided voters. Much has changed since the last time these two met on a debate stage four years ago, but the only thing unchanged Thursday was the contestants themselves. https://lnkd.in/eyheRK2w

Republicans Are Starting to Worry That They Suck at Governing https://buff.ly/3ShGter it’s a simple fact that the modern GOP doesn’t actually need policy accomplishments to win elections. This is a party built to thrive on gerrymandered districts, Senate malapportionment, Electoral College shenanigans, and other well-funded game-rigging and voter-suppression efforts—the better to survive the unpopularity that comes from not ever contributing to the civic fabric or the betterment of the country.

Summary: Democratic Rep. Katie Porter clashed with fellow Democrat Rep. Abigail Spanberger over a border-related bill, with Porter telling Spanberger to "go be a Republican" after she complained about Democratic amendments. This article by David Frum offers keen insight into the current stalemate in Congress, and the truths it reveals about the current dysfunctional state of the Republican Party and their priorities. The responsibility to change leadership in 2024 falls directly in our hands as voters. “Negotiators in the Senate have produced a draft agreement on immigration and asylum. The deal delivers on Republican priorities. It includes changes to federal law to discourage asylum seeking. It shuts down asylum processing altogether if too many people arrive at once. The draft agreement offers little to nothing on major Democratic immigration priorities: no pathway to citizenship for long-term undocumented immigrants, only the slightest increase in legal immigration. The Democrats traded away most of their own policy wish list. In return, they want an end to the mood of crisis at the border, plus emergency defense aid for Ukraine and Israel. If this legislation isn’t passed (likely), this suggests 4 truths about Republicans. 1. Republicans don’t really care all that much about the situation at the border. 2. Republican priorities are really “no aid to Ukraine,” not “defend the border”. 3. Republican’s true goal revealed is failure and chaos (not action). 4. Democratic politics can be replaced by one man’s will - somehow return Trump to the presidency: He’ll bark; the system will obey.”” #justice #voteoutMAGARepublicans #GOP #commonsense #leadership #accountability #stoptheinsanity

I have long cherished our right to vote, but now I am wondering what difference it makes, when I see Republicans cave every time to the Bolshevik Democrats and pass yet another wasteful (is there any other kind?) of government spending bill. Then the DOJ announces a national office to facilitate Extreme Risk Protection Orders, which are nothing more than a way to take guns away from law-abiding citizens without due process because someone "thinks" the person may be a harm to themselves or others, instead of doing something about taking guns away from criminals. Who in Congress voted to fund this? They take an oath to support and defend the Constitution. The 2A "shall not be infringed." Biden rails against Putin, but America is resembling Russia more all the time. #Congress #wastefulspending #Budgets #Republicans #secondamendment #2A #ERPO #budget #voting #nationaldebt https://lnkd.in/gMhTMJ-z

Media: @amyewalter to @Phil_Mattingly on the border issues' implications in the months ahead and/or the general election: "It's absolutely critical. Your framing of that is right: You could go back 20 years and point fingers at a lot of politicians ... but the reality is when you're president, the buck stops with you. Your job as president is to solve problems; that's what voters put you there to do. "There's a real legislative logjam, obviously, on this issue. What are the sorts of things that the president, the administration can do from an executive perch to make some changes on the border that are not going to necessarily require #Congress signing off on either more funding or changes to the law? I think that's where the administration is going to have to spend a lot of time early in the new year, trying to make those changes and show the American public that they have some control of this."

President Biden once again made another controversial decision, this time exceptionally detrimental to the Venezuelan people and the region, by calling for a repeat of the elections. This move undermines U.S. foreign policy and the ultimatum previously given to Dictator Maduro: step down by November 5th, or face U.S. intervention and arrest. Biden has now reversed this strong stance, weakening the message communicated Maduro, likely giving him more confidence in his position. Everyone knows Maduro lost. Edmundo Gonzales won by a 30-point margin, receiving 4 million more votes. Each ballot has a unique code and has been accurately counted, making a repeat of the election unnecessary. The UN guest panel and international observation experts from several contries all agree there is a clear fraud and have proven the government spying techniques and corruptive methods. Maduro used ilicit funds campaigning official news state he is wanted by U.S. federal authorities for drug trafficking and terrorism, with a $15 million reward for any information leading to his capture. Despite this, President Biden lifted sanctions, allowing U.S. companies to do business with the dictator, enriching Maduro, his family, and the organized network that profits from cocaine and murder. This is a national security issue, and it's not in the best interest of the U.S. to remain passive out of fear of being labeled 'interventionist.' It is at this point wise to dissuade groups of interest and voters of trusting Kamala Harris, Joe Biden with the future of Venezuela and the defense of freedom and the democratic values they claim to represent, any U.S. politician who refuses to firmly threaten or directly intervene in Venezuela to dismantle over 20 years of repression, corruption, torture, and suppression of the people's will isn't our candidate. Intervention is the only solution; elections will never be transparent. Failing to act now will have long-term consequences for the U.S. leading to more immigration and border related issues, conflict in an out of the country and the weakening of the diplomatic arm that has not being able to maneuver with the middle powers in the region a solution that's a win win scenario for all parties involved. This inaction, merely to maintain appearances, fuels the anger, disbelief, and disappointment both inside and outside the country. Don’t be surprised later if Trump’s Hispanic and Afro-Caribbean support continues to grow. Maduro remaining in power is a crime against democracy and freedom. He has tortured and killed millions—just a 4-hour flight from Miami. P.V #Venezuela #Kamala #Trump #Biden #Maduro #Elections #foreignpolicy #fraud

Deborah Heggen OK Republican voters…you’re OK with that? Wayne Fletcher THANKS, MITCH, LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD. BREAKING: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell makes the shocking confession that Republicans are intentionally sabotaging the border to help Trump win the 2024 election. Astonishingly, he would admit to plotting something so truly indefensible... For months, Democrats and Republicans have been crafting bipartisan legislation that would tighten immigration restrictions and also provide much-needed aid to Ukraine. Now, Republicans don't want to move forward with it after all of that work because they're afraid fixing our immigration problems would help Biden in the election. They'd rather let the problem worsen than let Biden get credit for anything. If anyone doubts the authenticity of this news? As well as Mitch’s own statements and actions? Please click on my other link here and you can hear from various republican senators who have confirmed this sort of tomfoolery: #trump #rapist #trump #ignorance #danger #democracy #republicans #democracy #ruleoflaw #election2024 #reproductiverights #climatechange #votingrights
