#politics #unitedstates #NobelPrize BRICS News posts on X that former president Donald Trump agreed to debate Vice President Kamala Harris on: Fox News: 9/4 NBC News: 9/10 ABC News: 9/25 Harris has not yet agreed to the debates. The country wants the Dems out. It wants change. But the Republicans should not take the American people for granted. The electorate is now more than 50% independent, not registered with either political party. How can Republicans ensure they can win in November? 1. House Speaker Mike Johnson commonly emphasizes 7 principles: A. Faith and Family: Johnson believes in the centrality of faith and family as foundational elements of society. He emphasizes the importance of religious freedom and traditional family values. My comment: Separation of Church and State in the First Amendment still stands in the American Socratic legal tradition. B. The Sanctity of Human Life: He strongly supports the protection of life, particularly advocating against abortion and supporting pro-life policies. C. Limited Government: Johnson advocates for a smaller government with less intervention in the lives of individuals, believing that the government should perform only the functions necessary [which public economists of all political persuasions call pure public goods] to protect individual rights. My comment: George Washington's Rules of Civility #110 applied to politics in a representative democracy 'always vote your conscience in the greatest deliberative body, the US Congress, not your political party'. Civility in Congressional deliberations does not help when the real outcomes in real people's lives are uncivil. This is the culture change in Washington that is needed which former House speaker Kevin McCarthy of California talked about https://t.co/KEX49eO0s9. D. Individual Freedom: He emphasizes the protection of individual liberties as enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, particularly the freedoms of speech, religion, and the right to bear arms. My comment: The Second Amendment must be amended by the process laid out in the Constitution to greatly restrict gun rights to only sport hunting, including for law enforcement where the police can use other non-lethal devices to bring physically restrain subjects. E. Free Markets: Johnson supports free-market capitalism as the best economic system to promote prosperity and innovation. He opposes excessive regulation and government control over the economy. My comment: Government has important oversight responsibility to ensure corporations are run to succeed or fail on their own merits, no corporation is systemically important because it is considered too big to fail, there is no corporate welfare at the expense of General Welfare in the preamble of the Constitution, people are paid a fair and living wage to form households and raise families with affordable basics needs for zero relative poverty at all times independent of the business cycle, and money is not free speech.
#politics #unitedstates #NobelPrize F. Peace through Strength: He believes in maintaining a strong national defense to protect the country from external threats, advocating for a robust military and strategic alliances. My comment: Peace through Strength is in making war illegal under international law and a crime just as violent crime is under domestic national laws of all countries. Aggression by nations on each other would then be a law enforcement problem in a regime where all weapons, large and small - except sticks, stones, and kitchen knives and so on - are banned. H. The Rule of Law: Johnson stresses the importance of upholding the rule of law, including strict adherence to the Constitution and the enforcement of laws in a fair and just manner. My comment: Aufklärung rex non potest peccare The King Can Do No Wrong. Not in United States of America https://lnkd.in/eXZsXgcs. 2. Women want a woman president. Do not attack women. Hold up conservative women as examples such as @NikkiHaley @RepStefanik, and the example of the late Supreme Court Associate Justice Sandra Day O’ Connor. Ask them to campaign for you. 3. You only have Fox and Newsmax and @elonmusk's X. The Dems have the rest of the airwaves. You all must appeal to the independents and @RepublicansAga2 Republicans Against Donald Trump who can vote against you together with independents. 4. This is not @HillaryClinton calling MAGA “deplorables” to lose the election in 2016. @VP Harris is far more personable and appealing compared to @POTUS in debates and @realDonaldTrump. It could be like JFK v. Nixon debates. So, being presidential because Trump was once president already and Harris was never, and avoiding name calling helps. 5. Focus on the Trump shooting and the witch hunt. 6. Get @BrianKempGA Brian Kemp, Governor of Georgia, on your side. 7. Give reassurances that there will be no politics of revenge against @BillClinton @HillaryClinton @BarackObama @MichelleObama. I know how difficult it can be for @realDonaldTrump to forgive the Dems. They did this to me also in 2010. I neither forget or forgive. I put them where they must carry their cross to forgive themselves. I have no power to forgive anyone. 8. Talk about keeping #bidenomics IRA, BIL, and CHIPS by asking the Clinton wealthy BlackRock Larry Fink to invest to get them on your side as @SpeakerMcCarthy spoke at Economic Club of New York. 9. Blame the Dems for the ongoing wars and the chronic abuse of the U.S. dollar, which is why we are where we are. 10. To do list. https://lnkd.in/e2bUdt75.

As all advertisers know, people sometimes act 100% emotionally. They sometimes act emotionally and rationally. They never act 100% rationally. Based on that truism, this week’s conversation on people, planet, democracy includes a playbook for a much bigger, more open, bold and innovative Democratic Party to win in 2024. Actively Lisen + Authentically Empathize + Energetically Reflect Back a Plan This plan needs to resonate in peoples' heads but - even more importantly - in their hearts. Both are required to get people to vote in 2024. Democracy is a verb. And preserving it / strengthening it means participating in it :). Thanks for reading, commenting, sharing below!

**WARNING - COMMON SENSE** Our nation is descending into division and absurdity. Well, at least part of it is... 😏 Some are resorting to race- or color-based politics, which can only result in more divisions. LIKE THIS "White Dudes for Harris' movement (and I am not making this up). https://lnkd.in/gZ_uE9we Think about this for a moment: judging by external appearances like skin color is not only wrong but dumb. People are individual beings with minds, diverse opinions and free will; animals are creatures that are driven by instinct to act the same as a group. During his last campaign, Joe Biden actually said to a black person and his audience, "If you don't vote for me, than you ain't black." I believe that statement was both pandering and blatantly racist. But some people fell for it. And both Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris were elected. Fast forward 4 years and you'll note that presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, for whom NO ONE has voted, is using race as a campaign tactic. And absurd ideas like 'White Dudes for Harris' are being introduced. With this non-logic, Kamala may soon suggest that, "If you don't vote for me, then you ain't white." And remember that the same media and Hollywood types who have misled you before are trying to mislead you again. Do you like that? HERE'S MY POINT. Whatever your 'color' or race, culture, gender or any other personal identifier like your political perspective, I hope you'll use your common sense, your God-given freedom, your discernment and your free will to make a wise and informed voting decision. And I also hope that you will understand the value of our US Constitution and its precursor the Declaration of Independence. You are not an animal who can be used, herded, trained or forced to behave for treats. You are a human being, and I trust you, my friends.

Let's make some lemonade! On Thursday, CNN is hosting the first presidential debate of the 2024 campaign, and that marks an anniversary of sorts. It was the reaction to the first Trump/Biden debate in September of 2020 -- and especially the number of people who said they'd had enough of the negativity and were opting out -- that Majority in the Middle came to be. Almost four years later, we're making progress. The political world is still full of lemons, and we're making lemonade. We're giving those in the middle a place to gather outside the back-and-forth, elevating voices of people who are modeling behavior we want to see, and working on ways to bring a little more civility and a little less partisanship to our politics. I don't anticipate a lot of "celebrating" this anniversary on Thursday. But I can think of one way to make it a little better: if the debate gives you sour feelings and you want something positive and productive to do, consider becoming a member of Majority in the Middle. Making our system a little better is the way I choose to deal. And a little lemonade never hurts.

The most prominent - and wrong - question this week, will be 'can a Kamala Harris win this because she's Black and a woman' and the answer has to be she can win this not IN SPITE of those things, but BECAUSE of those things. The matchup between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was a historically unpopular matchup and we all saw that terrible debate descend into embarrassing meaningless nothingness as one was lost and confused and the other raves about his golf handicap and the 'late, great Hannibal Lecter' (FYI, Hannibal Lecter is neither real nor dead, Don!) Kamala Harris or whoever takes the nomination, must remember that politics is not the service to one man's ginormous ego, nor (for the love of god) about how much we can make one group hate another, but it's about the SERVICE OF THE PEOPLE - better schools, better roads, manageable tax, women having autonomy over their bodies, freedom to marry and love whoever we choose, freedom to worship, clean air, clean seas, corporations paying their fair share, and a very real need and hope that the future will be better for our children and grandchildren. Politics is about policy, vision and when it actually works it's really, REALLY boring - when it's gone very wrong it's about ego, pageantry, yelling, hatred and people getting shot. Make politics BORING AGAIN, and vote for the competent lady, and don't let our world be defined by the past, because that's gone. The future is where we're going. #MakePoliticsBoringAgain #KamalaHarris

Happy President’s Day! Here's my fresh take (https://lnkd.in/eszkig7H) on the ongoing age-of-political-candidates conversation. Highlights: — what’s *not* ageist (calling Trump and Biden old—they’re old!), — what’s ableist (shaming people for memory lapses) — and what voters have a right to know. Had enough of all the “too old to be president” chatter? Here’s another way to think about it. Every media mention, across the political spectrum, references ageism. That is new, and it's exciting. Because most people have yet to think deeply about age bias, and you can’t challenge bias unless you’re aware of it.

Enough is enough! I’m tired of the political rhetoric flooding LinkedIn like it's a cable news channel. The constant barrage of half-baked comments and recycled talking points is more than just annoying—it’s a reflection of something deeper and more disturbing. What this says to me is that people are either willfully blind or severely lacking the cognitive ability to reason. Let’s be honest, most of them are willfully blind, choosing to bury their heads in the sand rather than face the complexities of the issues at hand. It’s mind-boggling to see the level of ignorance in some of the comments about Donald Trump and Kamala Harris . This race is too close to call for a reason—both sides have tens of millions of supporters who see value in their respective candidates. Yet, rather than engaging in meaningful discourse, we’re stuck with a sea of echo chambers where people regurgitate the same partisan drivel without a second thought. It’s maddening! How can we expect to move forward as a society if we can’t even have a rational discussion without resorting to the same old tired clichés? Wake up, people! The world is not black and white, and it’s high time we start using our brains instead of parroting political propaganda. #gabenfreude #divineintervention #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

We are marching, closer and closer to another polarizing national election. There is a growing lack of tolerance and civility, building along this same timeline. Studies continue to show a rising level of distrust with government. As a local government leader, with 20+ years of experience, the distrust in government is what hurts my heart the most. Luckily, local government has the highest trust and approval ratings of any level of government. This is mostly because we are the level of government that is closest to the people. To many in our communities, D.C. might as well be Narnia. Local government leaders are public servants, not politicians. While being politically savvy is part of the job, our code of ethics requires us to be apolitical. Local government is the heartbeat of a community, thriving on the pulse of public trust. This trust is earned daily through proximity and familiarity; our public servants are more than faceless entities. We are your neighbors, coaches, and friends. As true public servants, we provide not because we must but because we are compelled by a love for their community and a commitment to see it flourish. Let’s turn down the volume on Fox/Cnn and toast the real champions of government, at the local level. Their service may be silent, but their impact resounds in every corner of the lives they touch. Without a doubt, public service is a calling. Its a calling to make the world a better place, one interaction, one policy, one priority at a time. It’s a calling to improve our little piece of the world…to work for the cause, not the applause. We have to remember this on our good and bad days. We must answer the call. We are making a difference in the way citizens view their government. A shout out to all of the public servants answering the call. 🙌 My #motivation is to collaborate with you. 🤜🏼🤛🏽 Let’s connect 🔗 I focus on #leadership in city & county management and #kindness as our currency💫 Click my profile 🔔 and check out my hashtag #cscottandrews #LeadWithLove Work for the cause, not the applause. 👏 -Scott @cscottandrews Dr. Scott Andrews, ICMA-CM
