It is really rare to see a piece like this. This segment from CBS is an in-depth look at one of the struggles at the very heart of the disability rights movement: the fight - and the right - to live outside the walls of an institution. Specifically, it focuses on what's happening right in our own backyards: Illinois houses more people with disabilities in state-run institutions, and spends more running them, than all but four other states. Inclusion should be deliberate and should not come by accident. Up until recently, I’ve hidden my disability in fear of being thought of as “incapable”. Upon starting my business, I’ve practiced working within my own wellness schedule, which has greatly improved my focus, efficiency, and quality of life. The impact on my clients for these accommodations? None! 😊 Disabled workers are still valuable members of the workforce. Many times, accommodations are so small but so impactful for us! What can you do today to make small changes for a big impact for your disabled business partnerships, coworkers, and employees? Comment if you have questions or suggestions to share!
