Technology and Engineering Leader | People-Centric Manager | Software Innovator | Mentor | D&I Advocate
As we celebrate Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, it’s a time to reflect on the importance of diversity and inclusion in all sectors, especially technology. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers landed in Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and the enslaved were now free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. In the spirit of Juneteenth, we are reminded of the power of freedom and equality. As a D&I advocate, I believe that fostering diversity and inclusion in the tech industry is not just a moral imperative but a business one. Diverse teams bring different perspectives, drive innovation, and better represent the communities we serve. Inclusion ensures that every voice is heard and valued, leading to a more dynamic and creative work environment. Throughout my career, I've seen firsthand how diverse teams can tackle complex problems more effectively and create solutions that are more comprehensive and impactful. At Microsoft, I've worked to build inclusive teams where everyone, regardless of their background, can thrive. This includes humbly serving as a mentor, participating inclusive hiring programs like Microsoft LEAP, and hosting monthly cultural inspired presentations and discussions that highlight diversity among coworkers. Let's honor Juneteenth by committing to ongoing efforts in diversity and inclusion, ensuring that our workplaces reflect the rich diversity of our society and that every individual has the opportunity to contribute and succeed. Together, we can create an industry that not only advances technology but also equality and inclusiveness. #Juneteenth #DiversityAndInclusion #TechForAll #Equality #Innovation #Microsoft

At #BlackTechSaturdays, we know breaking into tech starts with access—access to devices, the internet, education, and a community that believes in you. Yesterday, we gave 500 laptops to entrepreneurs, families, and children who needed them most. It wasn’t just a giveaway—it was a hand up, empowering our community to get further, faster, together. This was the largest laptop giveaway AT&T or Human-I-T has done, made possible by partners like David Lewis and Jennifer Jambor, MBA , who joined us in filling a critical gap. The impact was immediate. One parent, with tears in their eyes, said, “This laptop is going to change everything for my kids.” Our "Amplified Intelligence" panel, led by Hajj Flemings, featured DaTrice Clark Crosstown connection on digital access, Paris Plain Ultrium on AI for vehicle maintenance, and Achsha Jones TripSlip on democratizing field trips. Together, we’re building America’s premier Black tech ecosystem, rooted in Detroit’s resilience. We’re just getting started—so much more to come. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” — Martin Luther King Jr. Michigan Central Newlab Gabe Middleton Johnnie Turnage Alexa Turnage City of Detroit You Can In Michigan #BlackTechSaturdays #keepgoing #togetherwecan #strongertogether #thefutureisbright #blackexcellence #blacklove #blackjoy #diversityintech #generationalwealth #detroit #blackintech #womenintech #Latinxintech #Bridgethedivide #ClosetheGap #creativeeconomy #youcaninmichigan

Happy New Week Tech Queens! As we kickstart another week, let's draw inspiration from these empowering words: "Always know your merit and how special you are, and don’t let someone else’s qualifications make you feel small. If you stick to this, you will always deserve their respect." In this industry often dominated by male voices, we, as women in tech, must recognize our worth and unique contributions. It's easy to fall into the trap of comparison, especially when faced with others who may seem more experienced or qualified. But remember that your journey, your accomplishments, and your perspective are what make you truly special. When you know your worth, others will also recognize and respect it. You will command the respect you rightfully deserve by staying true to yourself and your capabilities. Let's start the week with unrelenting confidence in our own talents, determination, and self-assurance.
