A Recruiter’s Perspective on Working on My Birthday 🎉✨ Today marks another trip around the sun for me, and yes, I’m spending my birthday as a recruiter! While many might think, “Oh no, not working on your special day!” I actually see it as an opportunity to reflect and celebrate in a unique way. As a recruiter, every day brings new challenges and opportunities. Today is no different. Here’s why I enjoy working on my birthday: Connecting with Talent: I get to interact with amazing candidates who are passionate about their careers. Each conversation reminds me of the impact we can make in someone’s life—helping them find their dream job is a gift that keeps on giving! Team Spirit: My team has always made my birthdays special, and today is no exception. Whether it’s a quick cake break or shared stories, celebrating with colleagues makes the day feel festive. Setting Goals: Birthdays are a natural time for reflection. While I’m working, I’m also setting new personal and professional goals. It’s a great way to kick off another year with purpose! Gratitude: I’m grateful for the opportunities I have—working with clients, helping candidates, and being part of a dynamic industry. This gratitude fuels my passion for recruiting. A Chance for Celebration Later: I know I’ll celebrate with friends and family soon. Working today means I can look forward to that special time, making it even sweeter. So here’s to another year of making connections, celebrating achievements, and helping others thrive in their careers. Cheers to new opportunities, both for me and for those I get to work with every day! 🥳💼 How do you celebrate your birthdays while balancing work? Share your thoughts!

Go with the flow ✨ What a fantastic way to start the week with an amazing breakfast for colleagues celebrating birthdays in April, May & June. Our CEO, Tim Scharwath & Our HR Head Harm Otten hosted the party, making it a morning filled with good food, great company & positive vibes. The DHL Global Forwarding GHO Birthday Breakfasts are a cherished tradition for all of us. We get to go around the table, introduce ourselves & enjoy breakfast with colleagues from different departments. It's a great chance to connect and chat outside the daily routine. But these breakfasts are about more than just birthdays. They're a celebration of the fantastic people who make DHL the incredible company it is. It's a time to recognize the unique individuals and their contributions to our success. For me, the highlight was getting to know new people, sharing stories & hearing some insightful tips from our CEO. Tim even shared some wisdom on staying calm and "going with the flow" during challenging times. It was a powerful reminder to stay positive and keep moving forward. Events like these showcase the power of connection and appreciation. They remind us that we're a team, and we're all stronger when we work together. Here's to many more celebrations and building a strong sense of community within DHL 💛❤️ #DHL #Teamwork #greatplacetowork #BirthdayBreakfast #CompanyCulture #Womenatdgf #logistics #oneteam #firedup #readytogo #respectandresults #connectingpeople #improvinglives #leadership #yellowunited #ibelong #belonging

At Marketing Intent, our close-knit team recently navigated a period of growth and reflection when Alise took her maternity leave. This journey emphasized the importance of preparation, adaptability, and the strength of our team in providing comprehensive client service. When Alise returned, our team felt whole again. Her time away was a testament to the strong bonds and seamless communication within our team. Alise expressed the joy of spending uninterrupted time with her family while also missing her work family. The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) we had in place eased her transition back, allowing her to easily re-engage with her responsibilities. Alise’s return brought a renewed sense of routine and productivity. Her ability to integrate her personal and professional roles showcased her exceptional organizational skills. Our clients, who frequently inquired about her return, also felt her absence, a testament to the strong relationships she has built. The past few weeks with Alise back in her role as VP of Client Success have been fantastic. Marketing Intent is ready to tackle new challenges and continue delivering exceptional service. We've just welcomed a new client and added another team member to our account management team. At Marketing Intent, we understand the complexities of the marketing landscape. Our experience during Alise’s maternity leave has only strengthened our abilities. If you need assistance with marketing, we're here to help. Reach out to us at Marketing Intent, and let's discuss how we can support your needs and goals. #MarketingIntent #TeamStrength #ClientSuccess #WorkLifeBalance

Happy 2024! I am celebrating my one-year anniversary in a position where I feel I completely belong and am truly supported every step of the way -- where I am respected and empowered. My wish for others this year is that they find a job that they love showing up for every day! I spent far too long in jobs where I was underpaid/underappreciated/undersupported and overwhelmed. Jobs in which I had to ghost-write positive Glassdoor reviews for a crappy employer (even though Glassdoor swears this doesn't happen, it does!). Jobs in which coworkers were publicly reprimanded for not sending messages to clients on a Sunday morning. Jobs in which "Hang in there" was seemingly part of my job description. Jobs in which I cried multiple times a week at my desk at 10 and 11 pm trying to finish up tasks that I was told "had to be done" before I left, while my family ate dinner without me. Jobs in which I was repeatedly Gaslighted and made to think that problems were my own fault. If you are in bad circumstances at your current job, I am sending positive vibes (and a kick in the pants to start sending out your resume!) that you find the perfect job for you in 2024!

I came back from maternity leave at the beginning of April after 10 months of nurturing my baby and learning how to become the best mum I can be for him. I came back full time. It wasn't an easy transition and there were many days I wanted to give up, leave work and go back to my long morning walks, endless trapped naps and nursery rhymes. Because that was my happy place like I had never known any other before. But what I didn't know is that I also had to learn how to embrace my new identity: I was living in a constant emotional rollercoaster, but I was genuinely good at my job once and I was determined to become better on my return. Not all at once, of course. If I've learnt anything in the past few months it's the importance of taking one day at a time, of setting small achievable goals and to trust my gut. And here we are: I've been integrating the skills and experiences gained during maternity leave in my professional life, and I am CONFIDENT in my abilities and the unique perspective I bring to my role as a working parent. ~ In addition to the old silly waffly me that still shines in the background 😄 ~ On the slim chance you’re still reading... This is the reflection I want to share to finish my essay: Returning to work after maternity leave can be challenging, but with the right strategies and support (thanks to all the Simply Commerce team, you've been amazing!) we can successfully navigate this transition and thrive in our professional roles.

As part of #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay, I participated in a meaningful conversation about returning to work after maternity leave. I'm extremely glad we found this safe space @ Aptiv to share our experiences as mothers and professionals. Thank you Marta Wydra Kinga Tokarz Kinga Stawicka-Wibowo for organizing it! Here are my three key takeaways: 1. After maternity leave, embrace the philosophy of letting go. It's impossible to always be your best self at home and work. Each day, make the choices that are best for you, and that's okay, whatever you prioritize. 2. Give yourself time to learn and properly onboard. After a long leave, you have every right to request training or a buddy to help you understand the changes. It doesn't show weakness; it shows that you still care. 3. If you welcome someone back from maternity leave, don't assume anything. Always ask if they want to take on another challenging project or go on a business trip. Regardless of home situations, everyone should have the same chances to grow. #WomenInEngineering #MaternityLeave #MovingForwardTogether

Ok…we need to talk about “Catch up”. I’m really trying not to be the grumpy old man who cannot accept the new ways but come on! It’s extremely misleading, especially for folks like me who are still trying to meaningfully grow their networks and gets that tingling feeling when the magical “My network” icon shows that red badge (which is also toxic AF but that’s how we do it nowadays). Is someone trying to connect with me?… well chances are it’s only a newsletter invitation from someone whose profile I have just checked, but still. But now? Birthdays? Work anniversaries? Really? Who doesn’t give a…? And I do, believe me I really do give, but not here, and not like this. I did my research on the subject by the way and I see some of the users got this feature back in 2023. Wouldn’t state they all loved it. Also read some articles of it that smell rather some PR stuff. “…foster stronger connections”. Sure, by sending a bot-generated “Congrats on yor 3-years anniversary!” we will be much more connected, not to mention flooding with these kind of stuff my messages where typically recruiters and LinkedIn staff - promoting premium for me (love you guys, I really do) - reach out to me. And please, don’t get me wrong! I’m all for meaningful, real human connections in the professional life because I’ve strived for those in my whole carreer and I feel it worked, but I can’t see this feature to bring that. Respectfully,

A perfect example of why asking expecting employees about their communication preferences BEFORE they go on leave is so important. 👇 Thanks, Jenny Fukumoto-Pasko, for sharing how this small step has improved your parental leave experience as you prepare to return to work! We discuss when employees might want to be contacted during their parental leave in an early episode of The False Tradeoff. 🎙️ Listen here: https://lnkd.in/e3gb55GE #career #parentalleave #communication
My nearly 6-month paid maternity leave at Intuit is almost over, and I've already checked in with my manager about work twice. Yes, you read that correctly. And I chose to do so. (I can't take credit for the idea. I got it from Parentaly, an amazing resource!) While being present for my kiddos during my leave was important to me, so is accomplishing my career goals. And if I learned anything from returning to work after my first child, it is that work hits you like a ton of bricks. I had extreme guilt, imposter syndrome, lack of confidence, crippling anxiety, etc. etc. And as a mom of two (!) now, I refuse to give into those negative feelings. I deserve better (and don't have the time to waste). Before I went on leave, I told my manager I'd like to be looped in for a few things: * Org changes that affected my day-to-day * A go/no go decision on the big project I led * An update to any HR policies that affected me * Any fun personal news from my teammates We also talked about things I'd like to start/stop/continue in my role once I returned. (Another tip from Parentaly. This isn't an intentional brand endorsement, I swear.) Fast forward to when my sleep schedule got a little more consistent and my brain didn't feel like a dumpster bin fire, I started monthly check-ins with my manager. And it was so, so nice. I got to catch up and see how she was doing, have a conversation that didn't involve my toddler's or infant's bodily functions, and I felt smart and confident talking about work things. My manager gave me updates and thoughts on some projects and quick wins I could scoop up when I returned. My husband asked me if I was excited to go back to work, and I said, "Actually, I am!" I know it won't be easy, but my teammates and I will adapt and grow and learn together. And that's just good for business. What a difference longer paid leave, a supportive manager/team and, yes, some mom experience, makes! ✨ #workingparents #workingmoms #paidleaveforall

Happy weekend! 🩷😇 Here are 3 reasons why i love to celebrate my client's birthday: Strengthening Personal Connections: Celebrating my client’s birthday allows me to connect with them on a personal level, moving beyond the professional relationship. This personal touch helps build a deeper bond, fostering trust and understanding. Enhancing Client Loyalty: By acknowledging and celebrating their special day, i make my clients feel valued and appreciated. This recognition can significantly enhance their loyalty as they see that i care about them as individuals, not just as sources of revenue. Creating Positive Experiences: Celebrating birthdays creates positive and memorable experiences for my clients. Most importantly, i love to see them smile, hear their laughter and enjoy their presence. 😁
