Many businesses see the value in hiring veterans, but they often find it hard to connect with them due to their widespread locations and tight transition schedules. Getting certified by the Department of Defense for approved apprenticeship programs can be slow and difficult. So, many companies work with existing SkillBridge and apprenticeship programs to hire veterans. Why is this important? AIRTEC attended The Patuxent Partnership (TPP) Defense Summit this week. It was another great local opportunity to support the important mission of TPP and engage with leaders in government and partners in the defense contracting industry. We often forget in the day-to-day grind and hustle why we do what we do but this was a great reminder of the big picture and the imminent threats that could be around the corner and why we must continue to work together and work through contracting, procurement, logistics, and budget challenges to be ready to protect the freedom we all enjoy. TPP is a non-profit member organization that works with government, industry, and academia to advance education through STEM-based initiatives, advance technology through events, and advance science and technology through the exchange of ideas, information, and data. TPP is a vital component of fostering workforce development. AIRTEC has been a member since 2019 and participates in their Southern Maryland 2030 Workforce Development Program which provides paid internship and apprenticeship opportunities in the area. This collaborative effort is with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aviation Division (NAWCAD), the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance, and many educational partners including local colleges and schools, as well as industry. We look forward to having talented students from this internship program join us in Summer 2024! Located in the AeroPark Innovation District at the St. Mary's Airport, a few miles from the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, AIRTEC has been supporting the critical missions of customers for more than 30 years.
