He Who Has the People, Wins. This simple phrase has been at the heart of everything I’ve shared recently, and it couldn’t be more relevant to the roofing industry today. No matter how advanced our technology becomes or how big our businesses grow, it all comes down to the people. The people who show up every day, bring their passion and skills, and push our industry forward. I’ve been fortunate to meet and work alongside so many incredible people in this industry—mentors, leaders, and young talent just starting out. These are the individuals who inspire me to keep going, to keep spreading this message, and to keep advocating for the next generation of roofing professionals. If we focus on attracting, supporting, retaining and empowering the right people, we’ll solve the biggest challenges we face as an industry. Together, we can create an environment where people don’t just work—they thrive. This isn’t just about business growth; it’s about building something meaningful. It’s about creating opportunities for people to reach their full potential and leaving the industry in a better place than we found it. To all the people making a difference in roofing, let’s continue to invest in each other and show the world what we can achieve when we have the people. During our #PeopleMakeRoofing interview, Charles Antis said something that really resonated with me. "At Antis Roofing & Waterproofing, I want everyone to see themselves higher, I want to invest in them." "People are craving purpose, more than they ever have, and in the roofing industry we have it, WE are the ones that provide that basic need of shelter, WE are the ones that keep families safe and dry." In my talks and webinars on winning the talent war, I mention employer branding quite a lot and it's one of they key's to retaining talent, by giving them people that mission, something that they are all collectively working towards, really creates that environment that people don't want to leave. Charles went on to say that last year, Antis Roofing had a 95% retention rate. My question to you is this, what is your mission, what is collectively bringing your entire organisation together and making them want to stay and play a role in that mission? 📈 With Competition Heating Up, Southeastern States Grapple With Challenges in Providing Shovel Ready Sites for Prospective Projects The surge in major manufacturing project announcements, driven by key legislative acts, has put the southeastern U.S. at the forefront of industrial activity. However, the region now faces the challenge of maintaining a steady supply of shovel-ready sites. North Carolina is taking bold steps with the Megasite Readiness Program and the NC Selectsite Readiness Program to ensure future development remains strong. The foresight shown by North Carolina’s leadership and organizations like the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) illustrates the importance of state planning and infrastructure investment. Discover how these initiatives are shaping the economic landscape and what it means for the future. The Southeast is booming with industrial activity. As we enter 2025, manufacturing construction is at a 20-year high, and the region is a hotbed for site selection projects. While factors like a business-friendly environment and skilled workforce are key, the availability of shovel-ready sites is also critcal. As illustrated by recent major announcements in North Carolina (Vinfast, Toyota, Wolfspeed, and Natron Energy), the very success of attracting these projects has created a new challenge: a shortage of qualified sites. Many Southeastern states face this same predicament. This challenge is one I'm particularly familiar with, having worked on related policy during my time, as Chief of Staff and Budget Policy Advisor for Representative Jason Saine. North Carolina's foresight in establishing programs like the Megasite Readiness Program, the NC Selectsite Readiness Program, and the Shell Building Pilot Program is a prime example of proactive solutions. As the article highlights, these programs, along with dedicated funding, are crucial for developing sites that meet the needs of modern manufacturing. The EDPNC's work, as acknowledged by CEO Christopher Chung, demonstrates the impact of these initiatives. While incentives are important, a robust pipeline of shovel-ready sites, ranging from smaller "select sites" to large megasites, is essential for continued economic development success. As we move forward, sustained support from state and federal leaders for infrastructure growth, planning, and funding will be critical to maintaining competitiveness. #economicdevelopment #sitereadiness #southeast #manufacturing
