Doing great things requires trust. I like the example from Sinek. We have a whole lesson with SW students that focuses on accountability. People often think breaking trust is the result of one big thing. More often, it’s several “seemingly” little things that aren’t little to the other person. So we practice real scenarios with students. BTW, “ghosting” is one of those scenarios. I’ve said these exact words: “We don’t have to like each other - and prob won’t all the time, we do have to trust each other. It’s the only way we can do the great things.” Great things require trust. #communicationmatters #trustmatters #findyourvoice

Ethics must never be underestimated. A personal life without ethics is reputation-limiting, requiring a churn-and-burn friends. We have all dealt with these people. This gives colour to the saying “…your career growth is limited by your personal growth”. Never risk your reputation, even at the expense of short-term benefits.

This is powerful.

We wrote previously about our collaboration with MSU to bring in a guest speaker, notable retired 4-star general Stanley McChrystal. Our thought was to create a public engagement that benefited everyone. No, you need not be a member of the military or an engineer for General McChrystal’s words to inspire. The topic? Leadership. That one word, as simple as it is to say, brings with it a myriad of philosophies and arguments about what it is, how best to do it, and how to impart the wisdom to do it. The applicability of this lesson in leadership spans beyond military and the battlefield into so many other areas of life.

This is a very important message for leaders. Are you thinking mainly about yourself? Are your decisions made based on what looks and feels good to you personally? Is your power, authority and position so important to you that you don't mind how many people are affected adversely by your actions and behaviour? How much do you value the people you serve? How much do you care for their interests? If this standard is used as a criteria to judge leaders in every arena, how many leaders do you think would come up to the mark? For leaders in the Body of Christ the standards of leadership are higher. If you are a leader it would be good to examine for yourself if you are mirroring the servant leadership that Christ Himself modelled. In Luke‬ ‭22:25‭-‬27‬ ‭‭‭‭Jesus said, "The kings of the Gentiles are deified by them and exercise lordship [ruling as emperor-gods] over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors and well-doers. But this is not to be so with you; on the contrary, let him who is the greatest among you become like the youngest, and him who is the chief and leader like one who serves. For who is the greater, the one who reclines at table (the master), or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am in your midst as One Who serves."
