In this week’s WWS by John Dick: “We’re more aligned on politics in America than it may seem. On issues and candidates, certainly not. But, on the whole, we share remarkably similar feelings – feelings of furor, despair, and weariness. Interesting to analyze the data on consumer confidence and how that’s driving purchase behaviors. How do you anticipate this evolves as we get closer to the election?
Kenan Institute Director of Research Camelia Kuhnen analyzed U.S. consumer sentiment in a recent #KenanInsight, comparing widely supported studies from the University of Michigan and The Conference Board. "I challenge the premise – that consumer sentiment is especially gloomy – because I think the data is telling a more nuanced story than this," Kuhnen said. "Consumers feel pretty good about their current financial situation and present economic conditions, yet they are considerably less optimistic about the future." Dive deeper into Kuhnen's perspective and three other expert takes here: https://lnkd.in/egaAzB4x #KenanInstitute #KIPE #ConsumerConfidence

The article aims to theorize about critical data studies with Latin America beyond the framework of data colonialism, arguing that the long history of social thought in the region can contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the datafication. It discusses views around dependence, oppressions, and liberation, debating how Latin American authors can be useful for current critical data studies, in a more nuanced and complex vision. https://lnkd.in/d_ZwyUgP

Hot off the presses! Results for America just released a new report that argues for the importance of generating evidence through thoughtful research and evaluation to create a better future. The report, authored by Christina Ciocca Eller, provides an extensive and balanced review, citing some of the latest publications, including Kelly Fitzsimmons anthology and RFA's State Standards work, among others. Year Up, our sectoral employment program that advances economic mobility, is among the promising examples referenced in the report. While there is still much work to be done, let's take a moment to high-five our friendly neighborhood data and research nerds today. Evidence building is challenging, yet crucial work.
