Aeronautical Engineer | CEng | In love with great leadership, high standards & having a lot of fun |
𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 : 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀! I reflected hard on my way back from Twickenham this weekend. You may be the one to make the most of an opportunity that comes your way but it is so important that you don't forget how it came to you in the first place. Opportunities that have recently come my way: 👩🍳 The chance to enact a vision with the RN Embassy was something I grasped after a long conversation with Max Cosby in Whitehall. ⭐️ A new job working for 2SL has allowed me to learn more about what my strengths and weaknesses are. I got this because Niall Whitehouse allowed it & someone's investment in the RN's digital transformation and the MyNavy App meant I found it in the first place. ⚓️ I have recently become an Ambassador for Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity having met Mike Beardall MA MCIPR through X and The Naval Review. 🏉 I have found an opportunity to grow my passion for sport again through Thomas Blackburn and a conversation over a Belgian beer in Southsea. 🌏👂I have travelled to incredible places, learnt things I never thought I would and watched senior Defence leaders operate on a daily basis thanks to an opportunity to work for Martin Connell CBE . 🤝 I enjoy growing my network and meeting new people on the daily - something I first enjoyed when working for Tom Holden. One thing all of these opportunities have in common? People!! 👥 Who is someone who has created an opportunity for you ❓️ Tag them in the comments below - let someone knonw how they've helped you out once is not a bad way to start the working week 🙌

Veterans bring unique skills to the workforce 🛠️ As a proud RAF Veteran, I've seen firsthand the incredible range of skills that veterans possess. From leadership and teamwork to problem-solving under pressure, these are qualities that any employer would value. But how do we tailor job search tactics to highlight these diverse skills? Firstly, it's crucial to translate military experience into civilian terms. Many veterans struggle with this, but it's essential for making their skills understandable to potential employers. For example, instead of listing military-specific roles, focus on the transferable skills such as project management, logistics, or technical expertise. This makes it easier for employers to see the value veterans can bring to their organisation. Another key tactic is networking. Veterans often have a strong sense of camaraderie and community, which can be leveraged during a job search. Connecting with fellow veterans, attending industry events, and engaging on platforms like JobOppO and LinkedIn can open doors to opportunities that might not be advertised. At JobOppO, we emphasise the importance of building a network over simply submitting CVs. It's about who you know and how you present your unique skills. Lastly, don't underestimate the power of continuous learning. The job market is always evolving, and staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies can set veterans apart. Whether it's through online courses, certifications, or workshops, showing a commitment to personal and professional growth can make a significant difference. Let's continue to support our veterans in their transition to civilian careers by recognising and promoting the diverse skills they bring to the table. Share your thoughts or experiences in the comments below, or visit joboppo.co.uk to learn more. #VeteranEmployment #CareerTransition #JobSearchTips
