Yesterday, the U.S. government and the Africa CDC announced a Joint Action Plan to advance a shared vision to strengthen public health systems and deliver improved health outcomes in Africa. The Joint Action Plan represents a significant step toward stronger and deeper U.S.-Africa CDC collaboration, building on both U.S. and Africa CDC health investments and partnerships across Africa. Additionally, the new plan will promote integrated health systems, strengthen public health emergency response capacity, enhance clinical and laboratory systems, and expand innovation and local manufacturing of health products.   Learn more details about the United States and Africa CDC’s New Joint Action Plan: https://lnkd.in/eSkfm284  

Last week I had the opportunity to participate in an exchange hosted by the Global Health Hub Germany and the Federal Ministry of Health. Through brief presentations and discussion sessions provided the event "Dialogue with non-governmental actors: federal government strategy on global health and current developments in global health policy" insightful perspectives. Particularly evident during the discussion and audience Q&A session was the shared interest among individuals from diverse backgrounds on this subject matter. Therefore, I would advocate for allocating more time to discussions to delve deeper into the topics. Nonetheless opportunities for personal exploration of the topic and exchange with people from other domains were well-utilized during the coffee breaks. In conclusion, this dialogue exemplifies the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping global health policies.

It is this time of the year again when member states meet to take stock and ponder on how to ensure the health and wellbeing of their citizens. The 77th Health Assembly runs May 27-June 1, 2024 | Palais des Nations | Geneva, Switzerland. This year's theme of the Health Assembly is: "A world mobilized for health, health for everyone". Participants in the World Health Assembly include Member States, Associate Members, observers, invited representatives of the United Nations and other intergovernmental organizations and non-State actors. The 77th World Health Assembly will be streamed live on the event's webpage in several UN languages: https://lnkd.in/db9kGt_z. One key expected decision by member states that was triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic is the approval of the pandemic agreement. Over the last 2 years, months, weeks and days member states have been combing through the agreement word by word to decide a binding pact to protect all citizens of the world. This has not been a simple exercise, it is the first ever process to develop a proposed agreement on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. All member states recognize that great collaboration and coordination are needed in the face of pandemics. While negotiations have been challenging at times, all countries agree that the world must be better prepared for the next pandemic.
