As someone who spends a lot of time advising on roads projects, this Play Sports Network video was an interesting watch. However, it should be of interest to everyone and is very topical as The Scottish Government is about to consult on potential reductions in speed limits on Scotland's roads. A couple of thoughts from me: 1) Despite transport policy at all levels favouring other modes of transport over private car use for some time, reaearch suggests there is still strong resistance to changes which make car use less convenient. Do we need a rethink on policy? Or just be stronger on applying and implementing policy? Or does the answer lie in wider policies (e.g. around placemaking)? 2) The 'Goodwin curve' shows that public opinion tends to ultimately become more supportive once people are familiar with road changes once implemented, despite increasing opposition prior to implementation. This isn't unique to roads changes and I wonder if political decision makers might be stronger if they were more familiar with the 'Goodwin curve'. https://lnkd.in/esX5qMFw #cmsplanning
