👉GROUNDED…
…oot ‘n aboot on this St Andrews Night at The Cawdor Tavern with a great book by Emma Henderson MBE MRAeS for company🥰✈️🏴
I learnt from Emma today that St Andrew is not only a patron Saint of all things magical, but also that he knew much about the magic that is #LEADERSHIP.
In that context, yesterday was a historic day in the UK where we saw the best of the UK Parliament and our elected leaders fully and freely engaged in important conversation. The conclusion was to advance the conversation a little further down the runway into Committee stage.
For those who don’t know, the UK Parliament is particularly weak in scrutinising legislation. The true power of the UK Parliament rests in the framework of Committees who exist to scrutinise every detail, word by word, beyond the nuance, into crafting meaningful laws that impact us all. They create Inquiry and secure Accountability - a tough mission both graceful to behold whilst often potent.
It’s timely then on this Saintly Day to also recognise Tan Dhesi and thank him for his leadership of one of the most powerful Committees in the UK Parliament - The Defence Select Committee.
Very respectfully Tan, I recommend ‘Grounded’ to you and to your colleagues; it gifts you rare insight into what it’s really like being part of the military community today and will help you in your important work. To me, the book also underscores the need for a truly independent voice that represents all who serve/d…and their families.
For those who don’t know, parallel legislation being discussed in the UK Parliament leans into the creation of an Armed Forces Commissioner. As to just how independent that person truly is, is at the heart of the debate…
Tans views on this legislation, views which I and many of my colleagues support, is detailed here:

Thank you for your #LEADERSHIP Tan and Emma - both a Force For Good on this Saintly of days. Keep ‘Grounded’ as you go about your important work helping others🫡

It’s crucial to recognize when someone is genuinely underqualified for a role, when gaslighting is at play, and when scapegoating is being used as a distraction. When a tragedy occurs, we must think critically and ask why certain narratives emerge—and who benefits from them.
The recent plane crash, the deadliest commercial airline disaster on U.S. soil since 2009, has nothing to do with DEI. Yet, we see a coordinated effort to shift blame onto diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives rather than addressing systemic issues in aviation safety, maintenance, and oversight. This is not a new tactic. Historically, marginalized groups have been used as scapegoats in moments of crisis, diverting attention from structural failures and leadership accountability.
It is not DEI that killed these civilians and soldiers. To suggest otherwise is not only misleading but dangerous. Critical thinking is more important than ever—because when we stop questioning motives, we allow history to repeat itself.

I am absolutely stunned. In his first press conference addressing the devastating mid-air collision between a passenger jet and a military helicopter in Washington, D.C.—a tragedy that claimed 64 lives—Donald Trump, without a shred of evidence and in the midst of an active investigation, chose to blame DEI for the crash.
At a moment that will undoubtedly go down as one of the deadliest in American history, when we should have a leader focused on uniting and consoling a grieving nation, he instead stokes fear and division—insinuating that the professionals responsible for our air traffic control system are somehow unqualified because of DEI initiatives. He also took the time to call our outgoing Secretary of Transportation—the first openly gay man to serve in the role—a “diversity hire” who was full of “b*ll**it.” And when pressed by reporters on the actual cause of the crash, he repeatedly admitted, “we don’t know,” before claiming that he was relying on “common sense” to make his baseless accusations.
This is not leadership. This is scapegoating. My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of everyone on board both the American Airlines flight and the helicopter. May they find support and strength in this moment of unimaginable loss.

This is scapegoating and fear mongering, plain and simple.
This also serves as an excellent example of 'What leaders should NOT do".
Personal ideologies aside, the least we expect from our leaders in crises is that they:
1. Exhibit empathy
2. Provide evidence when making outrageous (or any!) claims
3. Not prey on people's grief for opportunism
Alas, we saw none of the above.
Praying for the victims and their families- we shouldn't make tragedies like this any worse than what they already are.

Today, we celebrate both Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. On Constitution Day, we honor the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, a document that has guided and shaped our nation for over two centuries. This day reminds us of the principles that form the foundation of our Constitutional Republic and the rule of law.
Citizenship Day, observed on the same date, emphasizes the role of each individual in upholding these principles and actively participating in our democracy. It’s a time to reflect on the responsibilities of citizenship and the impact of our civic engagement.
At Airmatic, we recognize the importance of both days in shaping our nation and our commitment to preserving the values that define the United States of America.

The Biden-Harris Administration delivered historic investments to support veterans and military families, ensuring they receive the care, benefits, and opportunities they deserve. 🇺🇸
Here are a few that made all of the difference in the lives of veterans & military families:
1️⃣ Expanded Benefits for Toxic Exposure: Veterans diagnosed with conditions linked to toxic exposure now have easier access to benefits, providing much-needed care and support.
2️⃣ Record VA Budget: A proposed $369 billion budget to enhance disability compensation, education, job training, and comprehensive care for veterans and their families.
3️⃣ Economic Security for Military Families: An executive order to create more job opportunities and economic stability for military spouses, caregivers, and survivors.
We thank President Biden & Vice President Harris, and the entire administration for their unwavering commitment to our veterans and military families.

This is a critical read. It is extremely important that we understand how far we’ve let the legal boundaries of executive power slip away. They exist, sure, but as a chain-link fence with unlocked gates and which (even if those gates are locked) can be cut, climbed over, or have things pushed through it…. Pretty hard to police that boundary when nobody really agrees on where exactly that fence even is, and nobody seems keen on policing it anyway. Congress has the tools (but maybe not the will) to (1) find the fence, (2) mend the fence, and (3) and police the fence. ….My apologies for the rough fence metaphor, but first thing that came to mind…

A new piece by me, in The UnPopulist: the under-appreciated legal limits on *how* the President can use military forces within the United States—and what steps can help make sure those limits continue to be respected.
