As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Level M Recruiting Group, it's a moment to reflect on how far we've come and the groundbreaking journey it's been. Starting in 2014 with a distinctive, remote business model, I faced my fair share of challenges and skepticism. Despite the doubts from potential clients, I held firm to my belief in the model's potential and my own capabilities. This perseverance has been key to our success, as the once unconventional remote work model is now embraced widely in the business world. Thank you for the interview and a fantastic article as always, Alexandra Nawrat at UNLEASH! 📆 Last year, we at Revelio Labs noticed that the attrition rates of DEI talent were going through the roof at companies with recent layoffs. 📉 When we looked at the data agan this year, we saw a worrying trend: attrition rates of DEI talent have been twice as high as those of other roles for the entire last year! And hiring rates have not fully kept up. This means, there has been tremendous churn in DEI talent and the overall number of existing DEI roles has been falling. 🔦 But like I told Allie - there are some reasons for optimisim - especially when we look at the companies where DEI positions are actually growing now. I spotted a story in the The Washington Post a few weeks back that talked about the culture wars, and how companies are '𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈' their diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) teams. Examples include Zoom, Snap, Meta, Lyft and Salesforce. The piece mentioned some data from Revelio Labs, a data startup that we have a fab relationship with at UNLEASH as the company was part of our Startup Award at UNLEASH World last year. So I reached out, and ended up having a great chat with Lisa K. Simon, Revelio Labs' chief economist. We explored the shocking finding that 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑫𝑬𝑰𝑩 𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒏𝒐𝒏-𝑫𝑬𝑰𝑩 𝒋𝒐𝒃𝒔!!! But why might that be? While layoffs are part of the story, Lisa was very clear with me that this high turnover in diversity teams was more linked with resignations. "People are leaving on their own account”, because “it seems these companies have not a provided an environment where these roles can be productive”, Lisa shared. We also explored the reality that while tech companies have smaller DEIB teams, other companies in other sectors, like retail and real estate, are actually growing their DEIB headacount. The question that remains is what does this mean for the future of DEIB - are we going to reverse all the progress that's been made in the 2020s to date? or is this just a bump in the road?
