Do you know how to get the people who come and see you live to join your mailing list? It’s easily one of the most important things any artist, DJ, dance/ theatre company can do. Sadly, it often slides down the (LONG) list of priorities. When I worked as a live music promoter artists never asked me for the email addresses of ticket buyers and I didn’t think to set it up 😩. If that’s you, sorry I can’t send them now due to GDPR laws! When I worked in the funded arts sector I found out it’s standard practice for venues to share this data with dance and theatre companies ✨ BUT they don’t always think to set it up correctly in advance. James Blake is 100% right, companies like Ticketmaster SHOULD share email addresses with artists. BUT, most artists and companies aren’t James Blake, and a lot of smaller venues/ promoters WILL do this if you ask them to in advance. There’s plenty you can do to build your list, so I’ve put together a FREE checklist ✅ of 10 straightforward tasks to help artists, DJs, dance/ theatre companies turn the fans who want to see them live in to subscribers. This kind of mailing list is the absolute bedrock of a thriving live performance business. There’s also a data sharing clause you can copy and paste to send promoters/ venues, examples of subscriber perks, and a sample newsletter sign-up sheet in case you’re not sure what language to use.
