Great insight into how Estonia is doing its part in guarding the European border for the whole Schengen area. Also great reading about upcoming digital transformations to the European borders: namely the Entry-Exit System (EES) and European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). I was honored to be the project manager a decade ago for the feasibility assessment, that concluded indeed that biometrics will work for air, sea and land borders. During the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, IT systems in Home Affairs area were under my responsibility: I finalized the EES file, acquired the agreement between the Council and the European Parliament for ETIAS, achieved position of the Council for the renewed mandate of eu-LISA and paved the way for the interoperability of large-scale IT systems in Europe. #Estonia #Schengen #bordermanagement #EES #ETIAS #interoperability eu-LISA IBMATA Read more about it: https://lnkd.in/dXaUi6Dw

🚀 🇺🇦 Gain insights into the #Defence sector in #Ukraine via Daniel Bilak, Partner at Kinstellar – the #Ukrainian market’s leading defence sector law firm. Daniel also serves in Ukraine’s Territorial Defence Forces. 💬 “There are a few people who are better placed to assess the historic changes currently taking place in the Ukrainian defence industry...” comments the interviewer Peter Dickinson, in Business Ukraine, an English-language magazine. 📰 In his interview, Daniel discusses #Ukraine’s new role as the driver of the new European security architecture, which in his view encompasses: ✔️ A rapid expansion of private sector companies working as part of the country’s overall defence output, which has grown from the low single digits to almost 50 percent; ✔️ A vibrant tech sector, devising a steady stream of innovative battlefield solutions; ✔️ Remarkable progress made by Ukraine’s domestic #drone industry. 🎤 “In Ukraine we have the land, we have the skills, we have the willingness, and we have the need,” says Bilak. “A lot of international defence sector companies have already come to the conclusion that expansion into Ukraine makes economic sense, even under today’s wartime conditions.” 👉 🔗 Read the full interview (link below) or get your copy of the latest issue of Business Ukraine at business centres, chambers of commerce, hotels, restaurants, and other venues throughout Kyiv. https://lnkd.in/ejb-39XX #intheknow #BusinessUkraine #DefenseSector #Innovation #EuropeanSecurity #Kinstellar

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the Canadian Department of National Defence have formalised a trilateral collaboration to drive forward critical artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity systems, the research outfits announced on 20 September 2024. By combining their efforts in AI and cybersecurity, the UK, US, and Canada aim to maintain a technological edge as geopolitical challenges grow more complex. The MoD’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) will lead the UK’s efforts, with Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) taking charge in Canada. According to the MoD, this agreement is pivotal for cementing the close ties among the nations and further integrating their research and development (R&D) efforts. The collaboration aims to reduce duplication of research by sharing key insights and technologies across borders.

We 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲. Time to act 𝗡𝗢𝗪.⏱️❌ Back when we started we knew the road to building a company within the defence sector was going to be 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 - the need to establish trust, adapt to the limited amount of financial resources available, all the hurdles of SME's. And the defence sector, known for its complexity & regulations, has not made this easier. But the most importantly, what 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲. A lot has changed in the past four years: - SMEs are getting recognition from the EU by getting EDF funds - The Lithuanian government has increased defence spending to 2.52% of GDP in 2023 - A growing number of SMEs are now working to support Ukraine This is great, but 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵. Being an SME we have an advantage, we can build innovation and bring it onto the battlefield 𝗙𝗔𝗦𝗧, as the technology in the battlefield is changing within a period of months - not years. We don't have any time to waste, because the lives of people are lost every day. And right now, as I am at the Paris Defence and Security Forum 2024, it feels that we are slowly starting to recognize the bigger need for SMEs, need to shorten the road to getting funds, and, most importantly, mobilize NATO and establish safety & security for all of us. #DefenceInnovation #SMEs #ParisDefenceForum2024 Thank you for bringing us together Pranciškus Vaišvila Erika Kuročkina CHETCUTI-KIRKILAITE Daiva Nerijus Aleksiejūnas

🌍 Proud to share Ukraine's incredible achievement: ranked 5️⃣th in the UN’s Online Service Index, a powerful testament to the country's resilience and commitment to e-governance transformation, even amid an ongoing war and relentless missile strikes on critical infrastructure and civilian targets. Ukraine also stands at 1️⃣st position among 193 countries in the UN’s E-Participation Index, highlighting the nation’s dedication to fostering citizen engagement and delivering fast, user-friendly public services. This milestone is the result of the hard work and visionary efforts of the entire team over the last 6 years. I had the honor of working with this talented people for 3 of those years, leading key projects that have transformed how Ukrainians interact with their government. The Diia app, a state super app, now serves nearly 21 million users, demonstrating how digitalization is revolutionizing the country, even in the most challenging times. I'm incredibly proud of this achievement and the impact it continues to have on the people of Ukraine. #DigitalTransformation #EGovernance #ProudMoment #Ukraine #Resilience #EParticipation
