What is the best medium to reach your customers? For advertisers, this is a difficult question to answer. The big platforms offer many bells and whistles, with endless data options, inventory partnerships, and optimization features, but with the ad ecosystem in a state of flux, it's hard to know what's actually useful. Our founder, Keith Gooberman talks this week about TTD's 100 Publisher list: https://lnkd.in/egtXSjKX This is an interesting play by TTD as it gives them the ability to crown the champions of the internet and pressure those publishers to maintain UID2. Useful tool or clever mousetrap? Maybe both... In his weekly newsletter, Ari Paparo also speaks to this issue from an educational angle, slicing up the ad inventory into 4 quadrants: https://lnkd.in/eDf2cBrd For advertisers, navigating the complication of which quadrant to focus on and invest in, which platform to focus on and invest in, and how to make sense of the changing ecosystem is a massive challenge. At Pontiac, we aim to keep it simple, offering effective tools to access inventory across the open web, premium web across a range of channels. We have data integrations for ID mapping, and we have optimization tools that will drive results in a privacy friendly manner. Sometimes, in complicated situations, the simplest solution is the best, and the jockeying of the major players is creating more tension than benefits for most buyers.
The Trade Desk released a list of 'top publishers' called the TTD100 last week, and I believe it was a telling move. I think it tells us that UID2 adoption is low. Maybe not very low, but too low to justify TTD charging high fees for low scale. While the list of the Top 100 publishers by The Trade Desk might not be a "walled garden"... it is definitely A garden! And, the list of publishers is them starting to fence the garden. Later, they will tell us UID2 are the seeds in the garden. Is UID2 open source? Can any DSP have access to the same user base?
