📖 What is happening with Generative AI in Education? Very much enjoyed co-hosting a series of events on this exciting topic with team members from Owl Ventures and McKinsey & Company’s Education Practice! The gatherings included edtech entrepreneurs, investors, and leaders from higher education institutions and philanthropic organizations from over 40 institutions. Here are a few of the highlights from the discussions: 1. Importance of focused AI adoption: Education institutions that have prioritized AI use cases in workflows are seeing the most potential impact, especially as noticed in use cases across marketing and sales, product development, G&A and corporate functions 2. Education institutions are often takers or shapers of the technology (vs. makers): This shifts their focus on understanding end users and designing successful go-to-market strategies instead of on deep technical talent to build the technology. 3. Impact on human-to-human interactions: AI could help to remove friction, automate time consuming tasks, and augment educator knowledge so that time spent with the student is more useful. It could also help to enable a deeper, more meaningful, and more effective connection between educators and learners. 4. Need for AI adoption support: Institutions can be slow to create policies around AI and also need to train educators on AI use. Support will be critical to move from super users to broad adoption through processes and training. 5. Top concerns about AI in Education: Student data privacy, impact on learning outcomes, and limited measurable performance improvements are among the top concerns for educators and parents. Learn how our CTO Zichen Zhang developed our AI advisor and what Collage means to him below! “As the CTO of Collage, my role allows me to explore technologies that directly benefit college students, particularly those who feel marginalized or overwhelmed by the academic planning process. Working on the AI Advisor and server at Collage means not only utilizing the latest works in the research community of LLM agents but also creating solutions that can meaningfully impact students’ educational journeys. What excites me most about Collage is our ability to humanize technology and democratize education. While many big tech companies and Silicon Valley startups focus on training models to compete on various benchmarks, we are using LLM agents to create deeper connections—between students, their educational paths, and their peers. With the latest open-source frameworks, including LlamaIndex and LangChain, our platform goes beyond a basic chatbot, offering personalized advice that feels almost as intuitive as consulting with a real academic advisor, especially for those worldwide who can not afford private tutoring or advising services. I hope that Collage, a startup and a mission crafted by students, for students, can be an example for the world that instead of replacing jobs, AI technologies can be an enhancement to people’s lives.” #edtech #AI #Collage #startups

Part 2: Empowering Educators and Students Through AI Integration Continuing from where we left off, let's delve deeper into the practical applications of AI in education and strategies for navigating its ethical considerations. One of the most promising aspects of AI in education lies in its ability to personalize learning experiences. By analyzing vast amounts of data, AI-driven platforms can adapt instruction to meet the unique needs and preferences of individual students. This personalized approach not only enhances student engagement but also fosters deeper learning and mastery of concepts. Furthermore, AI-powered tools can streamline administrative tasks, freeing up valuable time for educators to focus on what matters most – teaching. From automated grading systems to predictive analytics for identifying at-risk students, AI has the potential to revolutionize the way educators work, allowing them to devote more energy to fostering meaningful connections with their students. However, as we embrace the transformative potential of AI, we must remain vigilant about its ethical implications. Educators have a responsibility to guide students in the ethical and responsible use of AI, emphasizing the importance of integrity, respect, and empathy in all digital interactions. Moreover, it's essential to address concerns surrounding data privacy and security. Educators must ensure that student data is handled with the utmost care and that robust safeguards are in place to protect against potential breaches or misuse. As we navigate the complexities of AI integration, collaboration and ongoing professional development are key. By fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning, educators can stay abreast of the latest AI technologies and best practices, empowering them to leverage AI to its fullest potential. In conclusion, AI holds tremendous promise for transforming education, offering unparalleled opportunities for personalized learning, administrative efficiency, and student engagement. By embracing AI as a tool for innovation and ethical decision-making, we can unlock new possibilities for empowering educators and students alike. Let's harness the power of AI to create a brighter future for education, one that is inclusive, equitable, and driven by a commitment to excellence. #AIinEducation #EthicalAI #DigitalLearning #EducationTransformation #SchoolsNow2024

👀Education Leaders- Checkout the new guide from the U.S. Department of Education. Although this guide was created for AI developers, it is worth your time. ❤️Beliefs of mine surrounding Professional Development showed up several times in this guide and I’m SO grateful so many are thinking about this “often forgotten” side of rollouts. 💡We’ve got to be JUST as intentional about the learning experience for educators as we are with the rollout and integration of AI in the classroom. 🥅 AI truly has the ability to make huge impacts for educators everywhere, but we MUST make sure the professional development is strategic, impactful, relevant, and human centered. 🎲The rollout of any new tech, integration, tool, etc. depends heavily on the success of the learning (notice I didn’t say training) alongside it. ⚡️It’s a pivotal moment in Education and I’m reminded of a similar feeling when tech first started to be integrated into classrooms. Leaders have the opportunity to take a much different approach this time. Instead of purchasing all the latest tech, we must focus on the learning experience for educstors just as heavily. This ensures buy in, usage, inspiration, knowledge transfer, application, and so much more! 📝Leaders in Education - Take the time to really consider not only how you will use AI in your schools, districts, and states, but also how you will prioritize equipping, enabling, supporting, and inspiring your educators alongside it! The success of your AI implementation depends on it. Your teachers need it. Your students deserve it. #education #ai #aiineducation #learninganddevelopment #edtech Guide: https://lnkd.in/euG-3vYe

Own your future, before it owns you. Founder 100 School ⚡️ | Learn the skills you need to crush it in a new world of work for free in just 30 minutes a day.
🌶 Spicy morning take on "ed-tech" for ya: So many startups in the "ed-tech" space focus on the "tech" first and "education" second. Which is where most go wrong - and lose sight of the whole point: student transformation. I see so many "AI powered X that will revolution the way you learn Y" startups, that I'm often left thinking "sounds cool, but how's that gonna help me as a learner?" To paint a slight constrast ... 100 School isn't in "ed-tech". Only "ed" (for now). Because we just send emails, that's all. Daily bitesized lessons. We've been intentionally building the educational pieces behind our learning experiences. All of which (at some point in time) can be elevated by tech. When we do that, the foundations are already there. 💡 Lesson: focus first on exactly where you want to take students (transformation), the skills they need to get there (curriculum) before considering whether "tech" can support taking the learner from A to B. Crowbarring tech into the solution can feel sexy, but sometimes simple is best for your students. Thoughts!?

This is one of the best initiatives I’ve heard of in a while that links our AI with important Education programs: Twenty-one participating startups (out of 600 applicants) use AI to create more inclusive, engaging, and effective educational pathways. Each founder will receive ✨three months of mentorship✨ by Google experts. This initiative empowers educators and entrepreneurs to create solutions that address diverse student needs. What is your opinion on initiatives like this? Do we need more of them? (I think so) Learn more about the use cases from Kenya to Finland: https://ow.ly/wBaC50TPske #AI #Education #Innovation #GoogleCohort #EdTech
