SHARK TANK TAKEAWAY #3 – Put on Blinders 😎 I’ve watched Shark Tank for nearly 15 years now – as a 26-year-old, it’s been a big part of my development as an entrepreneur. Being so familiar with the show, going into the Tank as a service-based business felt a little intimidating. The vast majority of businesses on the show are product oriented businesses. We stressed over how our service model would hold up in the Tank. So, we did our homework – we re-watched as much of the show as possible, and doubled down on the episodes that featured services. We knew that we’d have to face different and difficult questions about IP and scalability that product-oriented businesses might not have to. You hear stories time and time again of people’s sites shutting down from crazy high volumes of visitors after Shark Tank. We had to remember that we're not a $20 product people can purchase with the click of a button – we offer a custom experience, and the price tag reflects that. If "success" for us had been tied to number of sales compared to other businesses, we would have been disappointed. For both Shark Tank – and business ownership generally – don't use other businesses as your measuring stick. Shark Tank was a good lesson in this for us! We now go into other opportunities without being so tied to expectations and comparison to other businesses. Photo of Willow Sprague while we prepped on the beach the day before filming!
