INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Volunteer Field Research Assistants in Sea Turtle Nesting Project (2025 Season)! From March until October each year, this project conducts nightly beach patrols (rain or shine) to encounter nesting females (primarily leatherbacks and hawksbill). The goal is to monitor the nesting populations and to protect the females and their eggs from illegal harvest and beach erosion. The work is a mix of conservation measures and scientific data collection, marking individuals to estimate population size, collect different types of data on the morphology and growth rate of individuals, record the reproductive output of females, and calculate the hatching success of nests and the number of hatchlings produced. Further samples are collected to conduct diet studies using stable isotope analysis, and a few satellite transmitters are attached to turtles each year to study the habitat use of our turtles. 💫A day in a hippopotamus life 🌞 A hippo's day typically revolves around water. They spend a significant amount of time submerged to stay cool and protect their skin from the sun. Hippos are mostly active at night, grazing on grass. Hippos and elephants are often found grazing together in shallow swamps due to mutual benefits. The presence of elephants can help create and maintain open spaces in the vegetation, making it easier for hippos to access and feed on grass.
